Guest guest
Hi, I took my 4 year old son with autism for our first hyperbaric dive yesterday at Dr Levinson's office (we receive other treatments there as well). It did not go well and we wound up getting out after 15 minutes because he was terrified and wouldn't stop screaming and I was unable to help calm him because I was having a panic attck myself in the small chamber (I had NO idea it would be so small!). We had books, videos, etc but he was having none of it. As soon as he got out he was fine, and he did seem much more " on " afterwards even though we were in for a very short time. In fact, during his music therapy session a few hours later he put together 12 word sentence which is about 7 more words than he has ever put together before in his entire life (coincidence??) I would like to try again (have my husband go in with him) and we are willing to make the time commitment but don't know how he will do after our disastrous first attempt. So my questions are: Has anyone else's child had the same reaction the first time and gone on to tolerate the dives better after a few tries? Does anyone know of any hyperbaric treatment centers in Miami that might accommodate children with autism where the actual chamber is physically larger? Thanks so much!
