Guest guest
My husband has done some research on Melatonin because my husband takes it and I have trouble getting to and staying asleep. He found that there are some adverse reactions in women to Melatonin. There are some short term weight gains as well as long term depression. Please be careful taking that kind of stuff. It messes with your hormones. Take Care- SArah in Texas Help! Sleeping question. Need info before I go nuts with a bottle of sleeping pills (not really, but the thought is tempting!) I'm 3 weeks post-op and off all meds except my once a day 20 mg Prozac that I take in the morning. Except fatigue I've been doing great except... I have restless leg syndrome in my arms and it's driving me insane. (not a far trip I know!) Starting 3 nights ago I would start to go to sleep and then the crawling restless feeling would start. I'd lay there for hours before I could finally fall asleep. I tried a muscle relaxant one night and 3 melatonin the next, last night I took nothing knowing I had something to do 1st thing in the morning and couldn't risk a drug hangover. Now I'm totally exhausted and tried to take a nap. After laying for about 10 minutes it started and now it won't go away. It's even impairing my typing. I honestly think it's just one of those " healing process " things or a vitamin deficiency.. and advice greatly accepted! Thx! Guest guest
Hi Connie, I had restless leg syndrome not to long ago and have bouts on a very inconsistent basis. My decompression was July of 99. I also have problems with sleeping and I also have recently been dx'd with FM. My FM Dr put me on a sleeping pill called Ambien. It has been working for about a month but didn't see a big difference till about 2 wks ago. Major difference and the morning hangover isn't there as long as you take it when you know your going to get 7-8 hrs sleep. You might want to ask you FM dr regarding the sleep part and the restless leg syndrome. I do think FM is the effect of Chiari on our poor brains being squished. There is a good book my FM dr suggested and it is an official publication of the arthritis foundations. It is, Your Personal Guide to Living Well with Fibromyalgia " . The book at a Borders or and Noble is $15.95 but I think most libraries will carry it. It is worth a try anyway!! I hope you get to feeling better soon Connie but be patient, after all it was Brain Surgery!!!
