Guest guest
I'm sorry, I am confused once again. DOES ALA pull out mercury alone? OR does it help the Chemet/DMSA to do so? I was just told that it does not help take mercury out, it only helps when the chemet is being used. (For those of you who have used ALA alone, Moira, I know you have, HAVE you done blood tests/urine tests after the fact to see if Mercury is coming out?) Thanks in advance, I know I ask this every few months, but when I hear opposing views, I would just like to be reassured -Shari

You can read Dana's website too if you want, she uses ALA alone (without DMSA). http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/ humm.... I don't seem to have the URL for her write up about her kids' chelation..... oh-- wait-- I think this is it: http://www.autismchannel.net/dana/myson.htm#chelation you can also read Andy's info on it if you wish, in ANDY_INDEX, see the section on " chelation agents: ALA " (or something like that): /files/ANDY_INDEX > Thanks in advance, I know I ask this every few months, but when I > hear opposing views, I would just like to be reassured yeah, it all can feel so confusing so fast! best wishes, Moria
Guest guest
Hi Beth, A round should be around 3 days min, not 2. Check in the archived messages, you can probably find messages from Andy explaining why this is important. Why are you saying that " the ALA won't get us where we want to go " ? If you are trying to get mercury ALA is an excellent choice and works great even without DMSA or DMPS. If you are going after lead, then that's another story... What's your child weight? You could start at 1/8 of his weight. This might help him go through the first rounds with limited side effects. > > The practitioner who follows Andy's protocol just told me that my son > simply can't handle DMSA or DMPS, and I am inclined to agree. > > We kept making the rounds shorter with longer intervals; but with > DMPS, he would still get mouth sores. > > When we switched to DMSA, his white blood cell count dropped and we > had to stop for awhile to get it back up and then recently it went > down too low again. Guest guest
One of the Andy's articles that I read was a typical chelation cycle for kids is 2.6 days for school ages kids. You start on Friday when they get home from school and the last does is Monday morning before they head back off to school. Is this incorrect? > > > > The practitioner who follows Andy's protocol just told me that my > son > > simply can't handle DMSA or DMPS, and I am inclined to agree. > > > > We kept making the rounds shorter with longer intervals; but with > > DMPS, he would still get mouth sores. > > > > When we switched to DMSA, his white blood cell count dropped and we > > had to stop for awhile to get it back up and then recently it went > > down too low again. Guest guest
A minimum of 64 hours is what is recommended, less than 64 hours is not recommended, some people can get away with the minimum, some cannot. I am glad this is being discussed, as I have seen some recent posts advocating 60 hours. You have to count up the hours. Guest guest
ALA is the only chelator which gets mercury out of the brain. Guest guest
Yes, ALA alone works for some people. We never liked using it for my son because he acted strangely on it, but one mom chelated all four of her children with ALA and with great results! Barb [ ] ALA alone The practitioner who follows Andy's protocol just told me that my son simply can't handle DMSA or DMPS, and I am inclined to agree. We kept making the rounds shorter with longer intervals; but with DMPS, he would still get mouth sores. When we switched to DMSA, his white blood cell count dropped and we had to stop for awhile to get it back up and then recently it went down too low again. This was from doing 20 mg DMSA/ALA every 3 hours for 2 days with 5 days off. We have only used the DMSA/ALA for approx. 4 rounds total. She is suggesting I just use ALA alone. I am worried that because my son is 12 and is older, the ALA won't get us where we want to go. Has anyone else had good results using ALA without DMSA or DMPS? (We also tried the TD-DMPS and still got the mouth sores. Regards, Beth =======================================================
Guest guest
It does seem a coincidental that the minimum 64 hour chelation target falls right into the child getting the first dose when the get home from school on Friday around 3 or 4 and the last dose early Monday morning. > > > > > > The practitioner who follows Andy's protocol just told me that > my > > son > > > simply can't handle DMSA or DMPS, and I am inclined to agree. > > > > > > We kept making the rounds shorter with longer intervals; but > with > > > DMPS, he would still get mouth sores. > > > > > > When we switched to DMSA, his white blood cell count dropped and > we > > > had to stop for awhile to get it back up and then recently it > went > > > down too low again. Guest guest
If ALA is the only chelator that gets mercury out of the brain, then why are folks using DMSA with it (if lead is not an issue)? -Does the DMSA speed up the process? Guest guest
DMSA dumps a lot of other toxic metals from the cells and tissues. Most kids don't just have mercury but antimony, aluminum, aresenic, lead, cadmium, the list goes on. So in the beginning it is useful to dump those before going after the brain to minimize tracking any junk into the brain. Others chime in if I am mistaken. But some here have used just ALA. I think it depends on what toxins and how much you have to deal with. > > > > I am worried that because my
> > son is 12 and is older, the ALA won't get us where we want to > go.
> >
> > Has anyone else had good results using ALA without DMSA or DMPS? > (We
> > also tried the TD-DMPS and still got the mouth sores.
> >
> > Regards,
> >
> > Beth
> > > > > > _______________________________________________ > > Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com > > The most personalized portal on the Web! > > >
Guest guest
I recall you need to be as close as 72 hrs as possible. 65-68 hrs is ok, but 48 is not. Guest guest
This routine Andy notes comes largely from the convenience of having it fit in with school and work schedules. Many found doing it over a weekend in a family made it doable. However as noted a little longer is preferred, and the key is to at LEAST take equally the amount of time off. Such as 4 days on 4 days off. But again for many it was much more doable having the same schedule each week.
