Guest guest
Ken, that is true, but look at the type of sweetner that is used in those candies. If they use sorbitol, you could have some not so pleasant side effects! Also, total caloric intake during the day means a lot too. Life ain't easy and part of that uneasiness is following a diet! Re: how much can I have of the sweet stuff using a sugar manager! I know that I should watch my noutricionso will look into the splenda thing and I think I'll bake some cookies with splenda too but just as a treat. I found some russel stougher' and witman sugarless chocolates and find that they're quite satisfactory with a carb reading of 9 so that's not too bad. Ken b how much can I have of the sweet stuff using a sugar manager! I am wondering, as the subject indicates, if I can have that small piece of pie or say a couple of sweet cookies, or such, each day if I manage to keep my sugars down by taking say, some Metformen, or the like? You know, enough to keep down the suger levels. BTW, I am trying a *cromium* tablet that states on the bottle, that I should only take one a day, so has anyone on list tried some of these natural food suppliments to keep the dreded sugar down? I'm a type two diabetic. Thanks for any advise. Ken b in toronto hoever comes to god must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those that dilagently seek him! Guest guest
Not exactly, You have to , for a few nights, get up at about 3:00 AM and do a blood sugar. If it is normalat that time, then high in the morning when you arise, you know the " dawn effect " has happened. Then you (or your doc) should be able to adjust your insulin (long acting) so that the insulin will take bterr effect at thtime of the morning. Usually N insulin peaks about 6-8 hours after you take it, so if you are taking say 10 units, then you would raise it 2 units in the evening when you take it and see what happens. If the morning blood sugar is still high, then you raise it again 2 units. As Harry said, you also need toknow how the H affects you. Does it lower your BG 50 points or more or less? You will know this by measuring your BG before a meal, counting your carbs and then measuring your BG 2 hours after eating. If you have a BG of 5 whenyour measure befor a meal and then eat 30 grams of carbs and take 2 units of H, then you will know that 1 unit covers 15 grams-if your BG is 5 after 2 hours. Re: how much can I have of the sweet stuff using a sugar manager! patricia, yes i understand this but i do not know how it can be avoided? you are sleeping and your body is doing a job on you so all you can do is cope with it the next day, right? karen from canada how much can I have of the sweet stuff using >>> a >>> sugar manager! >>> >>> >>> > >>> > I am wondering, as the subject indicates, if I can have that small >>> piece >>> > of pie or say a couple of sweet cookies, or such, each day if I >>> manage > >>> to >>> > keep my sugars down by taking say, some Metformen, or the like? Guest guest
Kay, Most docs, especially docs who do not specialize in diabetes, just do not keep up with diabetes in particular. Also, too many docs are not taught nutrition when in school, or they think it is boring and do not pay attention. Guest guest
patricia, since harry is helping me with the day time humalog i am afraid to do the long acting at the same time. it is too much. i would feel safer just doing the humalog for now. my morning readings have been o k so i would feel very uncomfortable making too many changes at one time. i would be totally screwed up. hope you agree for now. thanks, karen how much can I have of the sweet stuff >>>> using >>>> a >>>> sugar manager! >>>> >>>> >>>> > >>>> > I am wondering, as the subject indicates, if I can have that small >>>> piece >>>> > of pie or say a couple of sweet cookies, or such, each day if I >>>> manage >> >>>> to >>>> > keep my sugars down by taking say, some Metformen, or the like? >>>> You >>>> > know, enough to keep down the suger levels. Guest guest
If your morning readings are okay, then there is no reason to change them! You must be getting the right dose of N. Guest guest
Ken, I am willing to bet that those candies are not " sugarless " . They may not contain refined white sugar but you can bet your bootie that they do contain some form of sweetener as Pat has mentioned. The term " sugarless " is very, very misleading as it only indicates that the product has not had refined white or brown sugar added to it. Sugar alcohol, fructose and other non refined versions of " sugar " are used instead. Also of interest is the fact that the sugar alcohol can be subtracted from the total carbs which further misleads everyone. Cy, theAncient Okie... Guest guest
Stress affects everyone differently, but generally it will raise your glucose level as long as the stress is going on. Then in diabetics after running a high glucose level during the stressful time, you may have a sudden drop and have a hypoglycemic episode. This is especially so if yo are on insulin. Re: how much can I have of the sweet stuff using a sugar manager! harry, this is fine with me but i do hope at some point we can talk about stress and how it effects our blood sugars and what to do about it? many thanks, karen Re: how much can I have of the sweet >>>>>>>>>>> stuff >>>>>>>>>>> using a sugar manager! >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>> harry, why are our doctors so misinformed? no wonder the >>>>>>>>>>>> patient >>>>>>>>>>>> is >>>>>>>>>>>> confused. thanks, karen from canada >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>

Guest guest
, last night my reading was five point something. this morning it was thirteen. in the mean time I got an email about a funeral of a friend. her husband found out in January he had cancer and he was to retire this June. well they buried him yesterday. I know what this is like as my husband of twenty five years died and the pain of losing a loved one. it just brought a lot of things to home for me. and the news I had been getting was from a friend who we meet go to a grievance class. so I wake this morning with a high sugar. I know my body and understand this will upset my sugar because I am human. it generally goes even higher under these circumstances. Guest guest
Hi , Emotional stress can be a real killer. I would suggest that you need to keep a sharp eye on this situation especially if it continues for any length of time. What Pat, Harry and others are really saying is that you do need to know how much insulin, oral meds or whatever you need to counteract the carbs you consume. You also need to have a very firm handle on how to " count them carbs " . I know that all of this seems like " Much To Do About Nothing " but - it is absolutely necessary for your well being and survival. Each person is different and what works for one person most likely will not be the same for another however, the general principles would apply. Were I you I would get up in the middle of the night a couple of times and take the sugar reading. It will also tell you how low you are going during the night. This " Dawn Effect " Pat referenced should happen a little while before you normally wake up in the morning. It is your body's way of trying to arouse you from your slumber. This is why some folks can wake up each morning without the use of an alarm clock, they just wake up. I suppose that if you are upset, worried or whatever and do not get a real night's rest your body has no clue when to try to wake you up but it knows that something is suppose to happen - sometime - so why not now? After a year of working on the project Crystal has finally come to grips with the concept of carbohydrate consumption having a definite relationship to blood sugar readings. Over the past several weeks she has refused thingsw offered her when we are at friends' house because " too many carbs, cant have it. " This is a monumental accomplishment for Crystal, believe me. A year ago she would get this vacant look and ask " why can't I have it? " Hang in there , it really will get a lot easier and becoma habit. Cy, the Ancient Okie...
