Baseline survey format for assessing present level of awareness about HIV/AIDS

Dear Members,

Very soon, we shall start an Awareness Promotion Program for the Self Help Group

Members in rural West Bengal.

But, before starting the Awareness Promotion Program, I have a plan to conduct a

Baseline survey so as to assess the present level of knowledge of the target

group on HIV/AIDS.

Do you have any format that I can use to measure the present level of awareness

of the community ? If yes, please send it to me.

It will be cost effective and easy if you use LQAS method for baseline survey.

Good to know that Anubrata's venture into awareness promotion of HIV/AIDS.

However, there is no set format for these. Researchers adopt techniques and

methodology to address the issues.

1stly, you need to clarify who is your Target Group (TG)? is it only Self Help

Group (SHGs)? who do those SHgs comprise?

2ndly, which geographical setting are you looking at? just rural WB is not

enough. Should have clarity on geographical coverage

3rdly, depending on the time and other resources (logistics), the methodology of

the survey.

The tools for the survey (questionnaire or discussion guides) will be based on

whether it should be a qualitative baseline or a quantitative baseline.

Another imp issue which may be captured is the media reach of those SHGs, their

media exposure, their likeability to a certain media type (mass media/ IPC etc).

Once you know this, you will be able to have your communication channels/

awareness programs through those medium in a more effective manner.

are promoted and their awareness level raised.
