Guest guest
Hey People! I need to jump in here and say please excuse . She's from the UK as is Oliver. This region is not exactly known for its food, lol. It's really making me laugh. I've never heard anything less appetizing than tuna meatballs yet has found it to be a way to get protein in the form of flesh. It just shows you that taste is really subjective. Ok, who's going to post a haggis recipe next, lol? We don't generally post recipes here but we could make an exception for a few days to give people some ideas on how to improve their nutrition. -- Hi Everyone, Some of you may remember that when I first found this amazing group, I was a veggie and had an ongoing battle with trying to eat meat and fish for a long long time. Many of you are ''too young'' to remember my withdrawal etc. so escaped! I found this recipe a while ago, and I think it's a great one. Just leave out the breadcrumbs, they will bind together fine without. And substitute the spaghetti / linguine for quinoa and you're all set. http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fish-recipes/the-best-tuna-meatballs-le-migliori-polp Oliver rocks in a major way for all that he does, feel free to pass the link on. Guest guest
Hey I'm in the UK as well and Oliver is great, " this region is not known for it's food " ? roast beef and yorkshire pudding? Toad in the hole? bangers and mash? fish and chips? shepherds pie? rhubard and custard? the Great British fry up (bacon and eggs)? need I go on? Whereabouts in UK are you ? Sheila>> ** At this point I can't tell if you're joking or not, Sheila, so I will assume you are serious. While some of these foods you're talking about are eaten in other parts of the world, none of them are known as fine cuisine. That was my point. I am unaware of food from the UK considered to be " gourmet " . Almost anywhere one goes in the world one can find Chinese, Indian, Italian, or Greek restaurants. It is rare to find restaurants serving UK-style food. They are not popular. You also don't see UK chefs being famous. Gordon Ramsey is famous but he's famous for being as asshole, not for his chef skills. This conversation began privately when told me that the tuna meatballs don't even " taste like fish " . I was taken aback by this because fish that tastes fishy is fish that is old. We don't eat fish like that here. Perhaps some of the markets in the middle of the country sell some fish like this (they are thousands of miles from the ocean) but fishmongers here won't even try to sell smelly fish to us. Fish should have no odor at all, . Remember, we eat sushi with raw fish so the fish has to be fresh enough for this application. I am not insulting UK food. I'm just saying it isn't exactly setting the world on fire. I am the first one to insult " American food " . American food (to me) is food that is packaged, canned, and in general, overly processed. Also, America -- home of the fast food restaurant. I want to share a recipe but I'm too tired to type it out, lol.
