"Parents Assisting and Lending Support" P.A.L.S was created through the joint efforts of UM-NSU CARD

and family members of individuals with autism or other related disorders. These family members possess extensive experience navigating the broad spectrum of resources available in the local geographic area. They also recognize the great benefits that can be achieved when parents are able to share experiences and ideas, both one to one and in group settings. The purpose of P.A.L.S. is to provide individualized assistance to families and to serve as a connection to the local autism community. There is no charge for P.A.L.S. services. P.A.L.S members work directly with UM-NSU CARD clinicians to support families. These family members have undergone

extensive training and continue on-going education in order to be well informed and aware of current available resources. How to Access P.A.L.S.? After each family has completed a CARD intake, a CARD clinician is designated. Families may request to speak with a P.A.L.S. family member through their CARD clinician or they may e-mail P.A.L.S. directly at: miamicardpals@... stressors · Effective coping skills · Family issues · Appropriate vs. inappropriate behaviors · Better decision making and problem solving · Other topics will be discussed as suggested by group members Space is limited to 6 group members Group will meet every week for 8 sessions Please contact our office for further information and to sign up. Group will be facilitated by Nichole Eckert, MS,LMHCNichole Eckert, MS, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and provides psychological treatment for adolescents/teenagers, college students, and adults. An area of specialty is

mother/daughter relationship issues, improving self-esteem/confidence, teaching appropriate and effective coping skills related to academic/college related stressors, as well as peer pressure, drugs/alcohol, and relationships. Ms. Eckert works with individuals and families with underlying issues contributing to Depression, Anxiety (such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-traumatic stress, Phobias), Bipolar Disorder, Chemical Dependence, Relationship and Familial issues. Ms. Eckert holds a Master's of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling and completed her graduate degree at Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
