Hi ,

<<Hello Group.... My name is and I am a new member here. Thank you for

including me.

I have been taking clonazepam for 15+ years now. 1mg. 3x a day. ~Keeping it

short for all......(: I would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience

withdrawling from this benzo. I know a doctor needs to be aware and on call, and

I would never attempt it without one. But I want to hear from anyone who has

made it passed it all... I have been in the unfortunate place a few times where

I have been unable to refill for up to two weeks. It was a crazy place to be in

my head. I remember thinking " OMG~ this can't last forever...HOW LONG DOES IT

TAKE?????? >>

** Why were you unable to refill for up to two weeks? Did you use more than

the recommended daily dose?

<<I am a recovering alcoholic with as many years sober as I have been taking

clonopin. As a " chronic " alcoholic I actually went into cardiac arrest twice in

withdrawal. I was one of those statistics that believes I am alive today by Gods

Grace alone. I was mdically detoxed 12 times! The very last time I did it alone

(with God). No hospital... no meds. But you know us addicts.... unless we are

ready, you can medically detox us 200 times if God allows...

Well God seems to have given me the willingness to consider life without

benzo's.....

(: I would appreciate any information anyone has to share on this subject.

Thank you all for your time!

Peace,

** The first thing is to know that 99.9% of doctors will take you off too

fast. Reductions need to be low (5%) and you need to be completely stable after

a reduction before doing the next reduction. This means that if you can say you

feel as well or better than you did prior to the reduction, you're ready for the

next step. If you can't say this, it's not time yet.

I have a concern that you are going to run into problems with alcohol as you

begin reducing Klonopin. From what you're telling me, you stopped drinking when

you added Klonopin. This is replacing one addiction with another. As you

probably know, Klonopin is quite similar in the brain to alcohol. You'll need

to engage in recovery services because this is not something we do here. Our

scope is to work with people when they're ready to get off a drug. Until

addiction issues are addressed, one is probably not ready.

You wrote in your request to join that you went cold turkey from Klonopin. My

advice was to reinstitute the drug. Were you able to do that?

Please take the time to read our files. To successfully get off psychotropic

drugs requires you to address it physically, emotionally, and spiritually. A

healthy diet is crucial. Take some time to read up.

There's no real difference in getting off Klonopin than there is to getting

off most other drugs. Everyone is different and will require somewhat different

types of help but in general, getting off these drugs is done the same way --

very small doses, very slowly.
