I don't know about others, but for me moving down here to MS was the worst

for my RA. My doc said that the humidity makes it worse in some people and I

am one of those. When it starts getting warm here I swell and hurt real bad.

Now during the winter months here I feel great, but starting here this month

when it starts getting hot and all I stay indoors all the time. I prefer the

cold versus the hot, but I am from WA state and felt great up there with the

meds, here the meds just are not helping. I don't want to discourage you, but

that is how it is for me.

Thanks ahead of time for opinions!

Hi -

I live in South Carolina - about an hour from the beach and USUALLY, the

climate is relatively warm during the winter - in the 30-40's during the worse

part of the winter, although this year, the weather during this winter has been

abnormally cold - 20-30's on a lot of days. I have read that the weather

doesn't really affect RA however, all of the people that I have talked to -

locally - , i.e. at the doctor's office, with RA, do see a difference when the

weather changes dramatically. Even my own physician said that it is not uncommon

to become the weather expert in your own family.

I know that with me, the weather may not have changed visibly yet but if the

barometric pressure changes (like a cold front coming in) - my pain will

increase very noticably. I usually take a look at the weather channel and sure

enough, something is coming. That isn't a steadfast rule necessarily with me, as

there is always an exception from time to time. I do think that I do better

during the rest of the year.

I would take a trip and check it out before I would actually pack up and move

as we are all so very different.

much in a week. Rain bothers me too.

My husband moved me to Houston for the same reason. Except the

humidity in Houston made it worse than IL! Also, I could not find a

Rheumy to take care of me for 10 months. In the meantime the pc

doctors took me off what I was on & I went into a major, even worse,

relapse. If you got a good team of doctors working with you, I would

not mess with moving!

HI Lynda!

I live in Michigan and am 36 and have RA/FMS. I feel

horrible when I go to FL as the humidity kills me! I

went last year in January for my 35th birthday with a

friend and I got so sick. Yet when I go to CA I feel

wonderful!

I live in Cuero, TX which is hot and humid. I have much more problems w/ my

joints here than when I am in dryer, but colder climates(I spend a lot of time

in Ft , CO). I also have a cousin w/MS who lived here, and has now moved

to Alberquerque NM and is doing MUCH better there w/the dryer climate. I think

the take home lesson is that warmer may help, but humidity makes it worse, even

when warm.

I moved from Florida back to Oklahoma. I was much sicker in Florida

for whatever reason. I think it may have had to do with the constant

pressure changes. It made my RA stay in a constant flare.
