Guest guest
Hi, My son was transferred to Baudhuin at almost 5 years of age, from PLACE for the purpose of having a highly structured environment with typical peer role models. He was high functioning (Aspergers) with great speech, decent eye contact, no big behavior issues. He mainly went there to improve on socialization and work on some language skills (converse more without using his special interest!!). I had a great experience at Baudhuin and feel that he got much more out of it than he did at PLACE, where he was lumped with children with poor speech/lang skills and some behavior issues. I had been a little nervous about making that switch because I thought Baudhuin was for lower functioning kids, but I was pleasantly surprised. Anyway...just my opinion....Good luck Subject: BAUDHUIM PRESCHOOL FOR HIGH FUNCTIONING AUTISTIC CHILDTo: sList Date: Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 2:05 PM HI EVERYONE,I'M A MOTHER OF A 31/2 YEAR OLD BOY WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM LAST NOVEMBER. Guest guest
You will do well at Baudhuim. My son was also higher functioning. Remember the school is a part of the family center ( lots of typical childern) the classrooms are apart but are very well balanced . Higher functioning childern will be placed in higher functioning class rooms ..The typical family center and Baudhuim childern play side by side in the play grand. You will also have a great support system for yourself as well at Baudhuim. I think it will be the best choices. Good luck and God bless your little angel. and mom P.S. is 10 years old now but started Baudhuim at 3 years of age ..These are the tougher years for you , but I promise you. It will get better . Hang in there. It is all going to get better . And always when you lease expect it . Good luck. > > HI EVERYONE, > I'M A MOTHER OF A 31/2 YEAR OLD BOY WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM LAST > NOVEMBER. Guest guest
Hi I was reading your message, My son is at baudhuin and the class is mixed, it is not necessary that they are severe all the kids are different , my son is starting to talk but his ahead of everyone in class , because he has private services at home, there is 2 kids in the class tht they speak beautifully and doesnt mean that they dont belong to the class , verey child is treated individually in small class of 8 max with 3 teachers, the building is beautifull and i think personally you can not find better place for him , your next option will be a program in public school, Every child has and IEP to work and focus what ever your son needs are they will work on him to improve, Dont be afraid that he will pick others behaviors it is not true I was afraid in the beginning also.I will recomend you to go to the school or call for a tour, but this is up to the broward school board to get in there is not easy. Guest guest
hi, let me first say that Baudhuin Is a PUBLIC school. Looks, feels and seems privat though, right? It works well for High Functioning kids too, my son is, and the school has been great for him because when he started he was not high function, he was 'we are hanging onto this kid by the skin of our teeth every day' functioning. They have many classroom formations, I have seen on this list that there was a mixed high/not high class, more typical classes and my son was in the high function class for his age (4). If you are at all interested, you need to call them NOW and go see the school while it is in session, they are super accomodating - but when I dropped my son off at school monday morning I heard the receptionist say to a mom "YOU are the first person on the waiting list' I hope you do look into it, the # is , and ask for Dr. Manny. Best of Luck.elsa peña wrote: Hi I was reading your message, My son is at baudhuin and the class is mixed, it is not necessary that they are severe all the kids are different , my son is starting to talk but his ahead of everyone in class , because he has private services at home, there is 2 kids in the class tht they speak beautifully and doesnt mean that they dont belong to the class , verey child is treated individually in small class of 8 max with 3 teachers, the building is beautifull and i think personally you can not find better place for him , your next option will be a program in public school, Every child has and IEP to work and focus what ever your son needs are they will work on him to improve, Dont be afraid that he will pick others behaviors it is not true I was afraid in the beginning also.I will recomend you to go to the school or call for a tour, but this is up to the broward school board to get in there is not easy. Guest guest
My 3½ year old son currently attends the Baudhuin Preschool. I strongly encourage you to arrange for a tour of the school and speak with some of the staff to help you make your decision. When the time came for my son to transition to the Broward County School System, I had no idea what the Baudhuin Preschool was. I had heard people mention it and decided to take a tour. Once my husband and I set foot in the building I knew that there was no other place that I would rather have my son attend. The programs there are very highly structured, according to your child's individual IEP needs and the staff (not just teachers and aides, but also SLP's, OT's, PT's and Autism Specialists) is highly knowledgeable, friendly and willing to work with you and make you and your child comfortable. There are also workshops and trainings offered to the parents, grandparents and older siblings to assist you with common concerns, special topics, and general support. My son (and I must say, I as well) have truly blossomed during this past school year. I have become close friends with several parents at the school and I can safely say that they have had the same experience. Best wishes for you and your son, Tina > > HI EVERYONE, > I'M A MOTHER OF A 31/2 YEAR OLD BOY WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM LAST > NOVEMBER.
