second wind at night (w/response)

I am trying to evaluate my sleep issues.

has me taking flower essences, and getting off caffeine before I start

dosing down off my meds (50 mgs Seroquel and 10 mgs Valium at bedtime). I drag

throughout the day, but start waking up before about nine pm, and stay awake

until the drugs I take knock me out. It's pretty much the same thing every day.

This business of being more awake and alert at night has been going on for

years. I don't get sleepy without the meds. And I don't nap because I don't fall

asleep. But I seem to get a second wind when I should be shutting down.

Any insight on this? >>

Hi Shea,

** Bottom line, drugs disrupt circadian rhythms. Get used to disrupted sleep

while getting off the drugs. Your body has had its normal sleep cycles blocked

for a long time. It will take a long time of being drug-free to regulate.

You think your energy is dragging more because you were running on caffeine

not real energy. It's also lagging due to the drugs you take. These are the

primary reasons.

Have you ever tried splitting the Valium dose into 5 mg late afternoon or

after dinner and then the final 5 mg at bedtime?

As an aside, you cited the Valium in an email as 9being too sedating.

Seroquel is much more sedating than 10 mg of Valium. I could take 10 mg of

Valium during the day and not fall asleep (I'm not conditioned to any of these

drugs) but the Seroquel would turn me, and most people, into a zombie.

Regards,
