Guest guest
I had my six month check up with my GI today. It went generally well and he agrees that being on the inactive "list" is a good choice for me at this time. I asked about whether fasting is required before ultrasound and he said that "it all depends what you're looking for and looking at". I would assume that we all have the standard look-see. They check my liver, pancreas, spleen and abdomen in general and I am required to fast for 12 hrs. He did say that different centers may have different guidelines. Clear as mud, eh? He said that I should have a colonoscopy sometime this year. I am one of those people who ALWAYS has a bad outcome when anything invasive is done. I told him that I'd wait for the virtual colonoscopy and he said that it is not sophisticated enough to differentiate between retained fecal matter and polyps, etc. That did not make me happy since it appears that some people wind up doing both procedures anyway. I reminded him that I got giardia (another patient of his at the surgicenter did too) within a short time of having the last colonoscopy and I asked about their sterilization procedures. I specifically asked if they used the recommended perecetic acid. He said that it was now state of the art. From his lips to God's ears............. So, now I have a question. Since I have had to have a roux en Y due to a massive infection after an ERCP, are there any special precautions I/he should take while doing a colonoscopy? Since the plumbing is changed are there any additional hazards? Trust me, if something happens to one person in a million I will be that one. I told him about the "gallon from hell" contest and he said you should go to him. Ah yes, I remember that I only had a pint of pond scum to drink (plus lots of water) -- I think it was called citrate of magnesia by Fleets...... I'll check the next time I go to the store. A pint is easier than a gallon! Sorry for being long-winded, Penny
