Guest guest
I believe most people who are on a biologic are also on MTX, try it, it may make a world of difference. I'm on a biologic and MTX and I'd rather be on that than the prednisone. [ ] Any Advice greatly appreciated Had my appointment with the rhemy Friday. He uped my predisone to 20mg and my humira to every week now my worry is the weight gain. The doc. says my RA is out of control. any Ideas of how to loose weight or how to deal with this disease I have been on meds since 1990 the doc want to put me on metho as well all the meds scare me. I am also on pain med but the wants me off them that makes no sense to me because if it wasn't for the meds I would not be able to work part time is that is what you'd call it. I am not even able to work 30 hrs a week. After working I hurt so bad It takes me 4 hrs in the morning to even be able to dress myself and that is only after I have taken the predisone and celebrex and a pain pill. Thanks for listening. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now.
Guest guest
My next appt I am going to ask about Enbrel, and see if I can still stay on the Arava. My pain and swelling this winter have been something else! I hate being on prednisone, but I have taken a dose here and there so that I could get through my day at work. My doc gave me a script for them and I can take as needed. What biologic are you on? Guest guest
Debbie, I'm on Remicade. When I had to choose between biologics, one 2 hour session at the office administered by an RN with a Doc available if needed vs. giving myself a needle once or twice a week won me over. Now it does just cost me $30 with my insurance and therefore that also was not an issue. I have a GREAT fear of medicine (any medicine) the first time I take it that I will have a reaction (this from a TERRIBLE reaction many years ago to IV dye) that just knowing I was not alone was a huge plus for me. I take a book, sit back in the lounge chair in a private room with my cup of tea and relax for almost 2 hours, not too hard to take. Guest guest
Good-morning ! I just want you to know I care and wish I knew what to say. I can only say I strongly dislike the weight gain from the prednisone myself. It sucks! The meds. scare me also as my system is so sensitive to them. As for the pain meds.....without them I'd rather be dead. Like my mom says ....if I had to live like this .. (meaning in pain and so on ) she'd rather be dead also. I thank God that we don't have to live with the pain even though I know sometimes the pain meds won't even work on some days. This disease stuff can be nasty. We must do our best. I, as well as many others I'm sure, use the less pain meds. possible and muscle relaxers. We know what is best for us. Diet and exercise is so important also. I hope to go swimming today to also help with the depression. When I say swimmimg I just mean a water theraphy class with slow movement exercises lead by an instructer for a fibro water theraphy class. It will help with this depression. Wishing the best for you on your decisions. With love,Marie-PA > > Had my appointment with the rhemy Friday. He uped my predisone to 20mg and my humira to every week now my worry is the weight gain. Guest guest
, and Ann Marie Unless u have already gained weight from the predisone, It may not happen, my mother was on it for her poly, and she did not gain weight, just puffy face, she did not like being on it though for other reasons, and weaned off. She is lucky enough to get relief from Ultram and swears on it, yet she worries she is a addict. She says if it wasn't for them she could not move, and still has her days. I on the other hand am on heavier meds, and don't like it but like U guys can't take the pain, and I use to be a strong person, now I feel like a wimp, but as you said days you feel like if this is the rest of my life I would rather not be here. But know I will struggle through, and keep trying something new that might come up. Ann Marie, you say you swim for to help with depression?, does it do anything for your Pain?, my mom also uses this type of swim for her pain, and swears by it. This is the only thing I have not been able to try as where I live up here in big state, but little town of Maine, they don't have anything close, I have lots of water around me but wrong kind, though maybe the freezing salt water would do something! Numb me for the day, I could use that, as I am at wits end, like u there are so many days now the pain meds/ muscle relax, does not work, but I take as directed hoping that maybe this dose will work, I feel I take to many, but what do you do when you hurt everywhere so much of the time. Hope u get some relief and I also am sensitive to soooo many of the drugs I can't count how many they have tried me on. snowespi <snowespi@...> wrote: Good-morning ! Guest guest
, I'm so sorry. Four hours to get dressed sounds horrible. I don't have any advice, I'm new to this disease but I'm just so sorry you are suffering like this. > > Had my appointment with the rhemy Friday. Guest guest
Regarding pain meds - my rhuemy says that the RA specific meds should take care of the pain and that I shouldn't need NSAIDS or other meds. Now, I'm sure that this doesn't always work for every single person. Right now my pain is transient and hops from one place in my body to another - hands, wrists, ankles, hips, shoulders, & knees. I can live with it for now. I'm on low dose (for me) methotrexate and no NSAIDS because my liver function tests are high. I've just started Enbrel and hopefully all the pain & stiffness will disappear, I'll feel much less tired, and forget I have RA - but perhaps that's not realistic. Stick up for what you need. If I can't have something that helps I want my Doc to give me a specific reason for limiting meds that help me function. ez --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make your homepage. Guest guest
There are more options-you need more help than you are getting. I also went through stages of 4 hours to limber up enough to function, now 30 minutes to an hour and much less pain. I am on Remicade every other month, methotrexate 15 mg once a week, pred 10 mg, celebrex 200 mg once a day and pain meds as needed usually Ultram sr at night as needed during the day. I could probably get by w/less, but I have a very demanding physical career I will not give up. There are more options out there for you. savannahhipchick <lfriedman5@...> wrote: , I'm so sorry. Guest guest
I take meloxicam (aka Mobic). It's an NSAID. Ibuprofen/aleve and such weren't quite strong enough so I went the prescription route. MTX has done a great job controlling the RA but I still need meloxicam daily to keep pain / stiffness / inflammation in check. At night I sometimes have more pain and need to throw back a Darvocet. >
