Unfortunately the 2008-2009 House General Appropriations Act came in below at about $500,000 less. The Senate's was worse with more than $600,000 less. Appropriations Act 100 SPECIAL CATEGORIES GRANTS AND AIDS - AUTISM PROGRAM FROM GENERAL REVENUE FUND . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .7,036,843 Funds provided in Specific Appropriation 100 shall be allocated as follows: University of South Florida/Florida Mental Health Institute…… 1,234,176 University of Florida (College of Medicine)....... 855,846 University of Central Florida...........................1,056,899 University of Miami (Department of Pediatrics) including

None of the funds provided in Specific Appropriation 100 for the Autism Program shall be used to pay indirect cost. Please contact (call their offices and follow up with email) the legislators below. I know there is a lot of them but they sit in various committees that must hear from us. Let them know that the Centers for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) are organizations that effectively utilize public resources to assist families throughout the state of Florida with children coping with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and related disabilities. This year the 7 CARD locations have provide support for more than 16,681 constituents with autism and related disabilities, as well as thousands of parents, family members, and professionals in all 67 counties in the state. That is over 3,000 more than last year. The centers have taken a 4% cut from their $7,518,000, which forced them to eliminate

all travel for April, May and June (including home, school and community visits) ,as well as cutting down on postage, copy costs, telephone charges and other expenditures. These cuts are hurting our children and decreasing the cost effective potential to the state. If possible personalize it and explain how your child and the state have and will benefit (successful education, integration, etc) from the direct intervention by CARD. Also please tell them that the Governor's Recommended Budget for 2008-09 continued the current funding for the centers at $7.518 million,

and forward the email below, from the Executive Office of the Governor. Thank you for your support in this matter. Time is of the essence. Respectfully, Carmen L.
