Never take steroids when you have thyroid and/or adrenal problems unless you are in a life-threatening situation. Your endocrine system can't handle steroids. This is pretty common in drug withdrawal. It's a rebound symptom. C: << Yes, I agree that you need a different thyroid doc. I believe the website I gave you has a database you can search for someone in your area>> N: <<<<<<< Yes, Ya-Yu Lee is close to me. I'll call for appt on Monday, but it might be a long wait. Meanwhile, I have an appt with Dr Burton in Philadelphia who's been prescribing Naturethroid for me for several years. He's not been understanding at all about my difficulty tolerating thyroid med. I'm going to take him some info about why some people have trouble tolerating thyroid med. I hope Ya-Yu Lee will work out.> C: <<If the DHEA is too much, stop it. But have you tries a lower dose? The most common mistake people make when taking something new is judging it and stopping it instead of tweaking the dose. Even if you begin at 0.25 mg. that is okay. If you feel obviously worse regardless of the dose, then it is time to eliminate this supplement.>> N: <<<<<<<< I took a little less than 1mg yesterday and I think it was too much. Something strange happened last night. I woke up about an hour after I fell asleep. I smelled something very strange but I'm quite certain it wasn't real. It was a putrid sickening smell that was new to me. I was feeling very fearful and crazy. I went downstairs to check the gas stove even though it didn't smell like gas. I just felt compelled to do that. I eventually fell back to sleep and the next time I awakened the smell was gone. When I recalled the episode this morning, I felt like I was a different person when that happened. <<<<<<<<< I didn't take DHEA today. I increased my thyroid med a couple days ago by 1/4 tablet. I think I'll wait a few days to make sure I tolerate thyroid increase before attempting DHEA again. I have an appt with Dr Burton on 8/4 and I'm going to need to know for sure if I can tolerate it because I'm certain he's going to recommend an increase. When I try DHEA again I'll dissolve the tablet in water first so I can titrate a very small dose. C: ** I agree it is best to set aside the DHEA for now. I don't know that your experience with the smell can be attributed to the DHEA given your unstable condition with the drug right now but I also can't say it wasn't driven by or contributed to by the DHEA.
