Guest guest
I have never had anyone actually make a comment to me about it. Mind you I get some EXTREMELY evil glares, until they actually see me walk away from the car. However, I do have the " If you take my arthritis I will give you my sticker " line ready to go whenever I get cornered. I am usually easy going about others using handicapped spots, but it burns me to my core when I see someone with a sticker/tag that is parking in that spot while someone else is in the store. Park somewhere else, pay attention, and pick the other person up at the building's front. Obviously, this is not possible everywhere, but doing this at WalMart is pretty easy! Guest guest
I asked my RA physician. I had to pick up a form at motor vehicle and he signed it. It was quite easy. nna <nammawssunshine2005@...> wrote: how hard is it to get a handicapped sticker for a ra sufferer?what is involved? i am new to all of this thank u and have a pain free day from ga marianna " S. Guest guest
My 12 year old does that! I explain to him, NO you do NOT want to ride on a scooter! Of course, he has a pancreas that doesn't work, so he is in bad shape too! I tell him be thankful you have your mobility, and take care of yourself so you always do! It is a real fight to get him to test him blood now, because he feels fine. I have to point to the fact that he could lose his sight, lose a leg, and won't be able to do what he can. When I get angered at a non-handicapped car, I often wonder if they were in my shoes, would that space be more important to them than they think of it now. As you said...what I wouldn't give to be able to walk from the back of the parking lot without pain. Shandi Burdick <susanraeburdick@...> wrote: Good responses ladies! I feel the same way when I use my scooter and someone says to me " Oh, I wish I had one of those! " ... I typically say, and it has happened often, " No, You Don't " ... some just don't get it, one woman apologized to me saying she didn't realize what she had said.... I wish they would understand that I would give them the darn scooter in a heartbeat if I could be walking even, and without pain. Guest guest
Usually your rheumatologist will fill out a form for you to provide to secretary of state. I never even had to ask for one, my doctor saw how far, and how debilitating it is to walk and automatically handed me a completed form to submit for a permanent pass. --- nna <nammawssunshine2005@...> wrote: > how hard is it to get a handicapped sticker for a ra > sufferer?what is involved? > i am new to all of this > thank u and have a pain free day from ga > marianna > > " S. Guest guest
My rheumy has the forms in his office, I just asked and he filled it out and gave it to me. Then I had to take it into the DMV. I had a temporary placard for a while, but now I have a permanent one. The DMV sends me a new one every two years without needing anything from my doctor, or going in to the DMV. I'm in California, don't know how other states handle it. Guest guest
I got a temporary one and it was easy. I downloaded the form from the state's (VA) DMV website, took it to my doctor, returned it to the DMV, paid $5 and got my card. I didn't renew it b/c luckily I can walk just fine most days, but if you have lower body pain, it's a lifesaver. I got nasty looks when I was using it too, but no one said anything. Maybe the limping got them to zip their lips, who knows. Guest guest
I just have to " high five " all of you guys with all of these comments. I too have a card that I use only on those days I have trouble. To look at me, I am 45 and look totally without problems. However, when I have to use my card, I sure get nasty comments, nasty looks - you name it. It stops when they see me walk - or better yet - attempt to walk. I actually had a man stop and just look at me until I got out of the car. He made a nasty comment to me that I won't even repeat and all I said was, you know, I wouldn't wish what I had on my worst enemy. You have a nice day. I smiled and limped away. He didn't say another word to me. Oh in my mind, I had some pretty nasty thoughts, but I felt it better to be the better person because I walked (forgive the pun) away the better person for real. Guest guest
I know in SC, all you do is get a form from the DMV, have your doctor sign it - then you mail it in yourself with whatever fee is required. It's like $2.00 in SC for a 2 year temporary card. stephanie <stephieann2@...> wrote: Usually your rheumatologist will fill out a form for you to provide to secretary of state. Guest guest
thank u for all of your help i am about to do it now... Pamela <pamelain1959@...> wrote: nna, All you have to do to get a handicap placard is to contact your local BMV and get a paper for your Dr. to fill out or you may be able to download it off the internet site. After dr. fills it out take it back to BMV and they will give you the appropriate placard or you can get handicap plates. Hope this helps.
