Guest guest
Dear all Just to clarify my position , I´m from London but now living in Madrid. I went to the London Women´s Clinic in Harley St last summer for a 2nd opinion about an " object " seen in my uterus during a scan. They referred me to Stanley Okolo, a consultant gynaecologist. He carried out a hyst/lap and removed the object, a swab left in my uterus from a c-section. All I know about Okolo is that he´s a specialist in keyhole surgery as well as infertility. I do not know if he´s particually expert in Asherman´s. My AS developed after the removal of the swab--which had caused severe inflammation--and was diagnosed by my dr in Spain and confirmed by Okolo in Dec. Okolo suggested I try a coil/hormone treatment as an alternative to another op. I´m not sure this was the right advice. My Spanish dr was adamant this wouldn´t work and I should have another lap/hyst to remove the adhesions first. I took his advice and had the op last week in Spain. Okolo is obviously a skilled hyst/lap surgeon (I can´t remember exactly what he said but he told me something about being only one of 2 experts in this field in London I think). I would have trusted him to remove the adhesions. He did a beautiful, neat job during the first op and I recovered really well. I just question his advice to try the coil/hormones before having an op to remove the scarring. However if you want to contact him his secretary´s number is 0208 887 4117. He´s based at the Nuffield hosp in Enfield. I´m puzzled by some of your comments Poly about a lack of experts in this field. Can someone explain why this is? Is it just that AS is very rare (any figures?), or does it crop up regularly enough that it is treated quite routinely by general infertility specialists? Is there any evidence of a lack of expertise/research in this area in comparison to other forms of infertility? Do you suspect that many women suffer AS without realising? On the subject of alternative medicine I have consulted with my homeopath friend and she´s prescribed something for my emotional state and the mecanical damage done to my uterus. I´ll let you know how I get on. Gwen you asked about how I come to be in Spain. We moved here a year and a half ago for my partner´s work. We expect to be here another year or so, and then off to goodness knows where, somewhere with decent doctors I hope! best wishes to you all, Helena
