Hello Ana,

If your son has an IEP and has been enrolled in a public school for 1

year he qualifies for the McKay Scholarship program. You can find a

list of schools by County here:

http://www.floridaschoolchoice.org/Information/PrivateSchoolDirectory/

Default.aspx?prgmtype=2

There are over 100 schools that are McKay perticipating schools in

Dade, ranging from Church and Montessori to chains like the Lincoln-

Marti schools to autism specific schools.

McKay Scholarships range from a few thousand to over twenty thousand

dollars a year, the amount is based on the students matrix number.

Find out more about the program here:

http://www.floridaschoolchoice.org/Information/McKay/

If the links don't work just search for " McKay Choice Florida. "

Ana,

Our son attends Killian Oaks Academy. They have a terrific program and we are very happy with it.

Miami-Dade: Autistic Schools

Hello all, I need your help in finding a good Autistic School for my 13 year old Autistic son. He was suspended yet again from school yesterday and I don’t think I can put him or us through another year in a regular school. He is in an ESE program in Miami Lakes Middle School. He has his own Paraprofessional with him at all times, but never seems to be able to have a good day. Can anyone please recommend a good school for me that is for High Functioning Autistic children? We are desperate.

Thank you

Hello Steve,

Thank you so much for your reply. I had already filed intent with the

McKay Scholarship Program and he is eligible. His matrix score last year

was 253. The reason I had sent out the email was because McKay's list of

private schools is rather extensive and none of them specify if they

have an Autistic program, only if they are Religions, Military, etc. and

I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any schools that had Autistic

programs.

Thanks again for all your help!

Ana
