Guest guest
We are only beginning to understand the dynamics of obesity and morbid obesity. There certainly is a cultural component. But why do some people gain 100 pounds and some none when eating a similar crappy diet? Why do some people feel crazy compelled to eat when they are not physically hungry? I am sure this issue is far more complex than will power, the availability of fast food and larger portions, psychology and 'just' genetics. I imagine the cause is likely a combination of causes. Obesity is struggle that non-obese folks cannot fully understand. It is painful beyond words. Cheryle -- " The path before all of us sometimes is strewn with shards of glass and this world does not always provide strong, protective shoes. So as the poem " Footprints " says, God will carry me, when I cannot carry myself. He loves me enough to do that for me...I surrender this struggle and am crawling up into His arms. (Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease.) There are plenty of obese people who don't have diabetes, and there are non-obese people who do have it. If a person has the diabetes gene, he will eventually get diabetes, through no fault of his own. I have never been obese, but I got diabetes, because the gene was passed down to me. Diabetes was in both sides of my family, and I was one of the unlucky ones who got it. It was the same with RA, and with the Fuchs' corneal dystrophy that I also have. I just didn't choose my parents wisely.
