Need Advice

Hi All:

In a few week I will be attending a bridal shower, my nephew will be

getting married very soon. In the invitation they have asked me to help

create a cookbook by sending a recipe on 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. I

have no problem with doing that, but here is the problem. I am NOT

creative and they have asked to include with the recipe sticker's,

snapshots and things like that. I want to make her something really

nice. Have any of you done anything like this in the past, if so could

or would you pass on some idea's to me? It would be so helpful.

Rita,

That sounds like a lot to ask for a shower. If you don't use the computer

for that sort of stuff, you can buy individual sheets of bordered paper in a

craft store. Look for one that has food (i.e., wine and grapes) on the

border. Then simply hand write your recipe.

Hi Rita,

If you go to Kinko's with the recipe and maybe a picture of you cooking, or

eating??? or maybe a picture of the finished dish (I always like to see what a

recipe looks like before trying it). Ask the Kinko's staff to help you make the

page pretty and laminate it (so spills wipe off). It would also be nice to have

a personal note to the bride and groom written on the page and sign

it...Love...Your favorite Aunt (Rita)

This sounds like a wonderful shower idea. I might have to try this one myself.

My son is getting married in September and his new bride to be might appreciate

some family recipes.

Hi Rita,

I agree with Liz. It kind of depends how formal you want your presentation

to be. My most precious recipes are ones handwritten by my Mom on " not so

fancy " sheets of notebook paper. My Dad also had some favorite recipes and

I typed them on decorative recipe cards. Now, I am so sorry I did that and

I'd give a million dollars to have his handwritten ones that I threw away.

I was much younger then. Even if the bride-to-be doesn't seem nostalgic

now, I'll bet she will be someday, and will cherish your gift. Some pretty

paper is a nice idea, but to me, your handwriting makes it priceless.

Hi :

I had so many responses and wonderful idea's regarding the recipe, and

not being the least bit crafty, I decided to go to a local craft store

and see what I could come up with. I didn't want to go to a lot of

expense, tried to keep simple. I found a section of the store that had

what they called " memory paper " . And what did I find but a paper that

had wine, cheese, grapes, sausage printed at the bottom with a lovely

border. I was able to print the recipe on this " chicken cacciatore "

(not carrot cake), and I found a nice picture of and I and I added

to the recipe, and it came out really nice. Mailed it out this morning.

Thanks to all of you others who gave me so many wonderful ideas. I

printed every single one of them and will reference them if the need

arises.

Rita,

Now you owe us all your recipe! I love chicken cacciatore and haven't found a

recipe that is equal to the one my grandmother used to make. I'd bet your is

really good.

I have a very famous carrot cake recipe I'd be happy to share.

Sounds like your recipe page will be a big hit. I suggested the same to a

couple of relatives and I think we are going to try to do it for my son and his

bride.a

Ok, here it is:

CHICKEN CACCIATORA

2 pounds of cut up chicken*

2 ounces of salt pork, diced

1/2 pound of onions, peeled and diced

1/4 cup olive oil

1/4 cup butter or margarine

2 garlic cloves, mashed

1 teaspoon fresh rosemary

10 fresh sprigs of parsley, leaves only

1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 28 ounce can of plum tomatoes

1 tablespoon tomato paste

Cut chicken into pieces. Combine oil, salt pork and butter in a good

sized pot; heat. Add onions and brown slowly. Add chicken pieces and

brown for 10 minutes. Add garlic, rosemary and parsley and ad to the

chicken, along with the pepper and salt; stir well for 30 minutes.

Check for cooking and salt. DO NOT OVER-COOK! This chicken is delicious

over freshly cooked pasta on the same plate, serves 4.

*I have also made this with boneless chicken & Italian sausage. I cut

the chicken into pieces and parboil the sausage and cut them into 3 or

4 pieces. I love mushroom, and I always add them to just about

everything I cook, but thats a matter of choice.

Off all the recipes I have cooked over the past 40 years of marriage,

this is by far my favorite.

We ought to do this more often, beats talking about aches and pains. Now

don't yell at me for saying that, you know how sensitive I am LOL!

Enjoy!

Rita

Luv & Hugs!
