Guest guest
Pat: I have just been all thru what your going thru right now. First of all I went to a medical supply distributor, that worked with me to find out first what was the best chaair for me. Once that was done they found one that fell within the Medicare Guidelines. Medicare will pay 80%, and then they called my supplemental and they will pickup the difference. I had no out of pocket expenses. You really have to do your homework, and boy did we do ours, feel like an expert. Regarding the van. The price that was quoted to you was in the ball park , and thats the price we would have had to pay, however by attending a seminarfr disabled people, I found this dealer " Affordable Mobility (recommended also by our Granite State Independant living here in NH). He will do it for 1/3rd of the price and he is a Ricon Dealer. I don't know what your financial situation is, but you have to do your homework in this area also. It took me months and months to finally find what we needed. If you need financial aid (don't know the exact qualification, call the MD Family Services that I referred too, they were wonderful, and willing to help. If you want to call me and we can talk further, . There is so much to consider when your making this decision. Rita Luv & Hugs! ************************************* Some people succeed in spite of their handicap. Others succeed because of them. Guest guest
Pat: I have a power chair. My doc had to fill out forms and Medicare paid for it. I've had it for almost a year now.....could NOT do without it since my legs won't move at all. Have your doctor fill out the forms......that is all that is necessary! Guest guest
I have an IMS conversion on my Dodge Grand Caravan. I was told that the Grand Caravan and the Town and Country were the two vans IMS uses for conversions. I bought the van used so the conversion was already done. The IMS conversion puts a ramp next to the passenger side rear door which folds up flat across the door entrance when the van is in use. The front passenger seat can be removed so the wheel chair can slide into place and be strapped down. When the regular passenger seat is desired it can be returned temporarily. I also have an " easy lock " behind the driver's seat which allows me to stay in my chair while another passenger is in the front seat that way the van can carry 5 people other than the person in the power chair. As far as paying for the chair- the sales people where you buy it should arrange everything with the insurance folks before you get your chair and bills are sent directly to them so you don't have to worry. Guest guest
At the end of this month I have a feeding/swallowing evaluation and a speech evaluation at the DAn MArino Center in Weston. Plus he is graduating preschool at Baudwin, going to summer school there and will be in swimming lessons. I have heard so much about ABA and DAN! doctors but I want to know what people thought about is that way to much to put on my son. Also, how can we have the funding for it until that bill for Autism goes into affect. My gut says to see how school, therapy at the Dan Marino Center and swimming lessons go first then see what happens but I wanted to know other opinions. Thanks!
