Nutrition and Health

Metal Illness? Poppycock!

Most of our problems come from learned behavior, our nutritional status in utero

and as children, our current nutritional status, and the toxins in our

environments. These conditions are regularly misdiagnosed as " mental illness "

because the first symptoms of these problems exhibit themselves as moods and

emotional instability. These are early warning signs that something is wrong

and will eventually manifest as a serious physiological illness.

Any change made will produce a more stable, healthier self.

Nutrition Redux

Let's begin with the easiest place to make changes -- our nutrition.

Sadly, most people, at least here in the USA, have difficulty wrapping their

brains around the significance of eating properly. We tend to believe that if

we're hungry we need to eat and as long as we don't eat too much fat or sugar,

we will be eating a healthy diet. This is what we've been told, right? Our

country equates weight with health. There is some connection here but nowhere

near the significance we've given it. A person can be slender and in worse

health than a person who is 25 pounds overweight.

This information given to you by the government and most physicians is not

even close to being helpful for you to create a healthier self. We're told that

counting calories is the way to health and that all calories are created equal.

Wrong and wrong.

Since nutrition is a huge topic so we'll talk about just one change right

now. The best way I can see to do this is to present it as a series. This will

make it easier to read (and easier for me to complete).

What would you say if I told you that the low fat craze you're constantly

told will keep you healthy and prevent heart disease is at the root of the

obesity crisis in this country and is responsible for an increase in diabetes

and heart disease?

How about if I told you that your brain is made up of two thirds fat, but

very specialized fat that you need to consume to keep your brain performing

optimally? But if you are " fat phobic " as the government and medicine has

encouraged people to be, you're not getting the types of fats in the amounts you

need them for good health.

Fatty Acids

Your brain requires specific fatty acids to keep your brain healthy and

performing well. Fatty acids are what dietary fats are composed of. When you

digest the fat in your food, it is broken down into fatty acid molecules of

various lengths. Your brain then uses these for raw materials to assemble the

special types of fat it incorporates into its cell membranes

Dietary fats are composed of fatty acids. When you digest the fat in your

food, it is broken down into fatty acid molecules of various lengths. These

lengths differentiate between types of fatty acids.Your brain then uses these

for raw materials to assemble the special types of fat it incorporates into its

cell membranes.

Passing through a cell's membrane into the cell interior are oxygen,

glucose (blood sugar), and the micronutrients the cell needs to function (ask

yourself where these micronutrients come from). Metabolic waste products must

exit. This way the cell won't be impaired by its own pollution.

Tomorrow -- the specific fats your brain requires, where to get them, and

what conditions result from a lack of these fatty acids (yes, one of these

condtions is depression).

Feel free to ask for clarification but remember that this is an ongoing

series so try to keep your questions limited to what has already been written.

Thanks!

Regards,
