HI it sounds like we are in a similar situation. A few weeks back I

was diagnosed with Stills disease and then Thursday with RA with significant

damage already done in my wrists. My RU has me on Methotrexate 2.5 mg but he

only wants me taking 4 pills of the six (just started yesterday). Prednisone

5mg twice a day and 1mg of Folic Acid. Nothing for the pain and he seems to

be kind of on the Holistic side and no matter what I say about the medication

he dismisses me. I'm not looking for a pain killer just something to knock

the inflammation out which is now in my right foot as well. Before I got

diagnosed a Medrol dose pack always worked immediately and all symptoms would

be

gone at the end of the first day...that is not the case anymore but it

worked wonders for me a few times. What I'm on now seems to do nothing much

but

like you I'm not sure how long it should take for the MTX to kick in.

Hi my name is and I'm new to Rheumtoid. I've been displaying

symptoms of Rheumatoid for four years, and about a month ago seven of

my joints inflammed and I was diagnose a week ago. I'm 26 years old

and tired. I have been put on Methotrexate and Prednisone they have

also given me darvoset for pain.

My question is how long does it normally take to get acclimated to the

medication, I'm really having a hard time feeling good enough to lead a

half way normal day. Is this just the way it is or is there light at

the end of the tunnel? And the swelling in my hands hasn't decreased

at all.

Any advice?

I think I could use some joint draining and injections but dont think I'm at

the point where prescription pain killers would help me, not like my RU would

even allow it! LOL I took some Tylenol and feel a little better today but

I know it does nothing for the inflammation. He wants to increase me to 6

MTX in six weeks if I make it that long(so much damage was done to my wrists in

a shorter period of time then that so if no improvement in the next two

weeks I think there might be a new plan...hopefully) I dont think the pred

does

much to me. We must be about the same weight, maybe that's why the similar

doses and strength.

PS I posted something about MTX on the Stills site that I'm a member of,

I'll copy it and post it here it might be of interest to you.

Hi Mandi,

We are in a very similar situation. I'm taking the Methotrexate 2.5 mg four

pills every thursday for two weeks, and gradually working up to eight pills.

I also take 5mg of prednisone twice a day. and one serving of folic acid.

sounds like our doctors went to the same school. I'm still having RA symptoms

but today they seem to be toned down quite a bit.

About the pain meds., I called my Rhummy about three days ago cause I had

ran out and she treated me like a drug addict. I wanted to slap her. How

embarrasing. It takes me like three months to go through a one month Rx. ( I

was

just diagnosed with RA, but I've been on pain meds on and off for about a year

for joint flare ups. I even had three joints drained and shot with steroids

before they diagnosed me.)

Anyway, keep me posted if you find any new info. Are they planning on

increasing your meds any time soon. How is the prednisone making you feel. I

feel

like puking all day. weird huh?

Hi mandi,

The draining and injections are a great instant fix, but they only

lasted a few weeks for me. One lasted a little over a month, my

jaw. If you can convince your doctor I'm all for it. It's a little

sore for a day, but not like the arthritis pain. And then you have

no pain and great range of motion for awhile. My doctor cut me off

the injections. I love them, that's what I'm addicted to. The sweet

nectar of a steroid injection. haha. Anyway good luck and let me

know how it goes.
