In September I will participate as a "Consumer Reviewer" on a Peer Review Panel in Washington DC considering 2008 applications for research grants under the Department of Defense's Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program for prostate cancer. Grants will be awarded in 2008 totaling $80 million.

A fact sheet on the prostate research program is available at: http://cdmrp.army.mil/pubs/factsheets/pcrpfactsheet.htm

The role of prostate cancer patients and advocates as "Consumer Reviewers" on this panel is to represent the keen interest of patients to support research that is not only scientifically sound, but also that is most relevant to our needs for more accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and maintenance of quality of life.

To that end, I would appreciate input from members of the list as to what you feel are the MOST important areas for new research. Feel free to email me directly or post your responses. I will compile them and use them to maintain my focus during the review process on the needs of patients.

Thanks in advance for you valuable input!
