Guest guest
You know what I ate cheese for my snack last night and my sugar was 20 less this morning. That was so cool. Is there a danger of raising your cholesterol level? I hope I didn't upset anyone like what a dumb question, I am new here. Thanks Kathy

Art, Each gram of carbs can raise your blood glucose 3 to 5mg/dl, so that slice of bread the dog ate could have caused a 81 to 135mg/dl increase from whatever you had before eating. As bread is fairly high GI, it would be likely closer to the high end. The butter on it and the eggs would have likely slowed time of the peak, possibly lowered it a little, and it would have lasted longer. If you do eat something like that, it would be informative to test before, and at 1 & 2 hours after eating to see the effect on your bg's. As you can see, reading the nutrition labels for the carb/serving content is crucial to your getting control of your bg's. Good thing you passed on the milk too, as that is high in carbs too, although the amount usually used in coffee is fairly small. You may fatten up the dog if you give him all the things you eliminate from your diet! , T2 Oregon

Like reading labels, frequent post prandial (after meal) testing can be a real eye opener. Barb

Guest guest
<<You'll need to experiment to see what works best for you, but you might try adding some protein and fat to your snack. >>>>>>>>>>>>> Last night I ate a couple of thin slices of lunch meat and a slice of cheese before bed. My BG this morning was 125. . . . 25-50 points lower than it normally is in the morning:-) Art>> Now the eating protein with carbs doesn't work for me at all. For me it is only the carbs, carbs, carbs. I tried the peanut butter thing and it didn't make any difference, still went high. But, to each his own. You don't know until you try it. Good job! Guest guest
Kathy, go to the links at the bottom of this message and read the success stories. Low carb has allowed many people to lower cholesterol and blood pressure as well as blood sugar. There is no dumb question. Guest guest
<<I tried the peanut butter thing and it didn't make any difference, still went high. >> there are some people on the list that can for example eat a graham cracker with peanut butter and because they combine carbs with protein their sugars don't go very high. But, for me it goes just as high, no matter what I combine the carbs with. But, you can try it for yourself, maybe you will be one of the lucky ones. Test your blood sugar and then Eat something you want to try and test again in 2 hours. You will be able to access the damage done.
