Guest guest
Teaes came to my eyes when I read your note. I have experienced so many of the same things. I have " crippled " hands and wrists due to RA. I am on Enbrel injections once a week - they do keep flares under control, but I have so much damage already. I can relate to you trying to do simple kitchen jobs. I dropped my hot tea cup - hands just let go. It takes me a long time to get my bra on, as well as socks - forget pantie hose! I kept dropping dishes and could not clean all the glass up - quite dangerous. The plastic is much lighter to put away. On bad days I can not hook a bra. I use to read several books a week. Now I find it quite difficult to turn pages. holding the book is not an option. I bought a gadget to get the gas cap off my car. My dentist had me purchase tennis balls. I have one on my electric toothbrush....it really helps. I also put them on my vacuum and broom handles Earrings are for special occasions when someone else can put them on. Purchase oversized - fat pens. Vastly improves handwriting. I do not recognize my handwriting when I use typical writing implements.. Hang in there and celebrate what we can do.... My hands are *much* better than they were but I don't have the same strength in them as before. So I drop things and have trouble opening things. I have a bit of difficulty holding reading materials. I can't usually hold it up for long and it feels like I have to position my hands/fingers oddly to do it. All of it is much improved but still challenging. I've discovered some handy tools that help a lot with lids, jars, etc. And I use adaptive tools with writing utensils and silverware when I need to.
