Guest guest
Crystal, you just may have sent me the recipe that will tempt my hubby back into low carbing! He's a nanaimo bar freak and the first thing he bought when he threw caution to the wind was a pack of nanaimo bars from the bakery. I'll make those for Christmas and see if the thought of being able to eat one of those each night could help him stay legal during the day. Guest guest
I've never heard of nanaimo bars. Is it a regional thing? The recipe looks very sinful, mmmm. I'll have to print it out and take it to my MIL's house next weekend. thanks, Cyn --- Kirstie Hawkey wrote: > Crystal, you just may have sent me the recipe that > will tempt my hubby back > into low carbing! Guest guest
Definitely a Canadian thing. The original recipe is on the Bird's Custard Powder can. I think that custard is more of an English thing. The original recipe uses chocolate, butter, sugar, vanilla, egg, graham wafer crumbs, coconut, and walnuts for the base, custard powder, milk, butter, and icing sugar for the middle, and a thin layer of melted chocolate/butter on the top. Just darned good! Very often served for special occasions and at bake sales and church suppers. I can't wait to try out the low carb version! Guest guest
Pamela, Nutrasweet also has carbs. Each packet has 1 gram, the same as for 1 packet of Splenda. Most people find Splenda to taste more like sugar and it is heat stable. Nutrasweet (aspartame) is not heat stable. Terry
Guest guest
I think Nutrasweet has carbs, too. Doesn't it? It justhas less than a carb per packet. We use Splenda because not only does it taste like sugar, it is heat stable and can be used for baking and cooking! In the granular form it also provides the bulk you need for baking. Guest guest
Heat stable means it doesn't break down or get bitter during high-heat applications, like baking or cooking.
Guest guest
You can cook/bake with it, not just use it to sprinkle or in pudding type things..........Annie >What do you mean by heat stable? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Anyone know if there is a SF pudding that is sweetened with Splenda? I really prefer not to use aspertame sweetened products.. Thanks!!
