After surgery report

My DH had his RP by Divinci on June 26, he did very well with the

surgery. The pathology report was very good, better than the biopsys.

Gleason down from 4+3, to 3+4, he had five tumors. Three were

significate, with the more agressive PC. Two small ones were 1+1. No

cancer in the perimeter. No cancer in lymph glands.

He is working through continence issues. I think he is doing great, he

is not as positive. Just a little dripping, and some leakage when he

is tired. He went back to work last week.

The ED issue is not resolved, it seems to be progressing. Some

fullness, but not enough. Does this improve with time? He had nerve

sparing, but only on one side. We are participating in a study (like

the Bob Dole study) but so far not much help there. He is able to have

an orgasm. How long does it normally take to get back to something

close to before surgery?

Not impatient, easier to ask these questions on the list.

TIA,

Judy

I had robotic surgery on Aug 6, so I am fresh out of the box. The worst part was the catheter and its removal. I am doing my Kegel exercises as often as I can. My pathology report showed almost exactly what the biopsy did. The tumor was a little larger and a bit more defined, but was limited to the left side. My personal preference would have been proton beam, but I am not the most patient person and am very busy with my pastoral work, so we decided on the DaVinci. I knew that incontinence would be a problem. It is getting better already after 2 weeks. I can flood the place or just wait til the undies get so full they sag. I have been able to go 1-2 times a day the last 2 days. The surgery itself was a piece of cake. I had to request no more pain meds as I was dopey all the time and I wanted

on my feet. I do not regret having it. I chatted with people who had each or the different treatments, surgeries included. Many cannot believe that I am doing as well as I am. I resumed my pastoral duties yesterday and am teaching seminary classes now - 2-1/2 hours from home.

Had open surgery in Feb. 06, similar stats as yours. Had about 95% bladder control initially, then up to 99% after a couple months. Just a drop now and then when tired and stretching/lifting. The ED issue took a good while for me for some reason. Good feeling after a month or so but no real saluting for several months. Took about 6 months to get it at 75% of what it was before, then another 3 months or so to get it to maybe 85% where it pretty much is now. Good enough all things considered since I'll turn 60 next month. Watched my dad die of prostate cancer, I'll sure live with what I have if I am, in fact, cured. Time will tell. Good luck to all.
