Guest guest
A Dexa scan is a bone density test. It is looking for osteoporosis or osteopenia (thinning of the bones). It is a very simple x-ray that is done. One of the spine and one of the hip. Sometimes they will do the forearm area too. Guest guest
ann, I had the same thing happen to me about 2 weeks ago. The rheumy has me on some special vitamin d gel tablets and wants to check my levels in 2 months. I was told that having a vitamin d deficiency can help speed up the process of RA doing damages to your joints. If your bones are weak, then so are your joints. I hope I am explaining that correctly. The vitamin deficiency can be from not getting enough in your diet and not getting enough sun light. I think the dexascan is a bone density scan to see how bad your bones are. I am not a doctor, but I think that is that is what it is. I am 30 y/o and my rheumy wants to be start getting bone density scans when I hit 40. Hope that helps. Best of luck to you. --- In , " unicornmom1062 " <Donahuejk6@...> wrote: > > Hello all, got a call from nurse this morning and she said I had a > vitiman D deficiency, didnt say why, what causes this? also dr. wants > me to have a dexascan done tomorow, can someone tell what this is or > what it is done for, I know I can wait till tomorrow to find out but > was wondering now. all is new to me as i had only found out i have ra > about 7 months ago, on mxy and plaquinell which dosent seam to be > helping, any help will be nice thank you very much and please try to > have a pain free day if possible > > joelann >
