Guest guest
Hi everyone, I don't post often, but lurk around here reading posts. I was wondering if any of you have had bursitis? I have it in my shoulder along with RA/spondylitis in my neck and lower back. I also have degenerative disc disease with arthritis which is compressing on my spinal cord and nerve. It sends pain down my arm/shoulder and causes my hand to go numb and tingle. Does anyone out there have anything like this? If so, what do you do to help treat it and relieve the pain? I am seeing a physical therapist for my bursitis shoulder and neck, with no help, but actually getting worse. I also can't sleep much at all and am beginning to get to my witts end at this point. Chronic pain is awful!! Thanks for listening and I hope there are great suggestions for relief out there. Hope this finds you all doing better today. All my best, Les
Guest guest
Les, I get bursitis in my shoulder on and off, my doc would like to put a shot of cortisone in there but I resist, it goes away eventually. If you don't mind cortisone, you could ask him to give you a shot at the site. [ ] RA/spondylitis Hi everyone, I don't post often, but lurk around here reading posts. Guest guest
Hi , I have a problem with bursitis also! I have had it in my hip and shoulders. The pain can be excruciating and mine does not resolve on its own. My rheumatologist gave me a cortisone shot in my left shoulder last month. It took a few weeks to really kick in, but it has helped quite a bit. I can sleep at night without waking up every time I roll on that side. I will do anything to get rid of that pain. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
Hi , I have had Bursitis of the hip. It has been quite along time but I was given an NSAID ( which it turned out broke my mouth out in bad ulcers) also went to physical therapy and the only part that helped from the therapy was the stretching exercises. I also have DJD and Osteo as well as Fibro, just to round out the RA. Heat also helped some.I hope that you get some relief soon.Let us know if you find something that works. Guest guest
---Hi , I have considered a cortisone shot, but my doctor basically refuses to try it because I have another issue where bones in my body have died. It's called AVN (avascular Necrosis) and steroids can cause bone death, so that's out right now. I had my check up appointment yesterday and was asked to consult with a surgeon for neck surgery and do nothing for the shoulder at this point. I'm scared to death. The thought of spinal surgery is frightening. I'll let you know what the surgeon says. I agreed to consult with him, but really don't want to go to surgery yet, or at all really. Thanks for the input. Les > Les, I get bursitis in my shoulder on and off, my doc would like to put a shot of cortisone in there but I resist, it goes away eventually. Guest guest
--- Hi and Heidi, THanks for responding to my post. I replied to 's post so I won't be too redundant if I can help it. Since taking cortisone shots is out, I don't know what else to do. The physical therapist basically told me that bursitis is tough to get rid of and that I may need to weigh the situation for an injection of steroids. But, the doctor isn't even considering the shoulder at this point. She is just focusing on my neck. Surgery is really scary for me. Back/neck surgery is something I think you only have as a last result. I don't know what advances they have made over the last several decades, but it seems that even with huge advances in back surgery, it's still quite risky. I'll let you know once I consult with the surgeon next week. Thank you all very much for replying to my post. Have a great pain free weekend. Les > > Hi , > I have a problem with bursitis also! Guest guest
Hi Les, Sorry to hear about your AVN. There is a good support group on and a friend of mine belongs to it. he has avn in the shoulders and hips. Prednisone can do that. > > ---Hi , > > I have considered a cortisone shot, but my doctor basically refuses to > try it because I have another issue where bones in my body have died. > It's called AVN (avascular Necrosis) and steroids can cause bone > death, so that's out right now. Guest guest
Hello Les, I have severe RA and spondylitis. The pain is terrible, I have RA in my sacruim joints as well, pelvic tailbone area. What really helped me was having radio frequency nerve blocks done. Unbelievable, it lasted two years, along with exercise. and I am going to have them done again soon, it helped my mobility and the pain was not there. check into a pain management facility to see whats availble. The one we have here is called Matrix, or check with your local hospital for information. Jean savannahhipchick <lfriedman5@...> wrote: Hi Les, Sorry to hear about your AVN.
