Guest guest
Lynne, Thank you for your valuable input. I have added it to the top of http://www.tmgp.com/generic-mino.htm. This bring up the issue of Minomycin, which is brand name pelleted (or pelletized) Minocin sold in New Zealand and other foreign countries. It is substantially less expensive than Minocin in the U.S. For example, see http://www.prescription-europe.com/Minocycline.htm Their price is € 69.57 for one hundred 100 mg capsules. This is $89.12 (U.S.) Sincerely, Harald At 07:39 AM 8/22/2006, you wrote: >Hi Herald; > Just to let you know that Steifel still exists(formerly Lederly) in >Canada. They make the pelleted and powdered brands and there is not too >much of a price difference between them.I used the powdered and am in >remission. It works just fine. Guest guest
Hi Bev, Your right about Dr. Sinnott not wanting you to decrease prednisone right now.It definately would make that shoulder hurt more and may give you more aches due to the decrease and you will think the AP isn't working for you. I would definately tell him about the shoulder! You may need more Clindymycin IV's. He may decrease your AP till the flare is over. Please let him decide what to do. As for your daughter. If she does (I think its called) pressure point therapy, have her try that. I had that done and it was amazing. The shoulder pain (similar to yours) subsided and then went away. Of course I had been on AP about 6 years at that time. I have been on AP since 1997 and still have flares. Less often and less pain but still have them. You can read all our stories on rheumatic.org/medhist.com These storie will give you encouragement and it will be easier to get thru this knowing others have done this before you. Best of luck. cookt rheumatic Minocycline I have Polymyalagia Rheumatica, diagnosed early last year. After a bad experience with 80 mg. of Prednisone a day for months, I went to Dr. Sinnott in Ida Grove, Iowa, for AP. He gave me 5 days of IV Cyclosporine, 900 mg. ea, then 100 mg. Minocycline 2 x day LONG TERM. My nephew with RA had great success with this treatment under Dr. Sinnott's care. Up until two weeks ago, I no longer had any pain around the joints which was great, but was still fatigued and often " woozy " which wasn't so great. I don't know if that was from Poly-Rheu or Minocycline. However, 2 weeks ago my right shoulder, shoulder blade and neck started aching constantly, kept me awake nights. I may have pulled something while lifting weights, or it might be the Poly-Rheu. My chiropractor daughter gave me one treatment so far, I've had 2 massages with a 3rd coming today. I've tried hot baths, hot and cold packs, linament, but the shoulder thing won't go away. I am to call Dr. Sinnott the end of this month to report how I am and to see if I can begin to slowly reduce the 10 mg. of Prednisone I'm still on from my family Dr.. I really want to as I'm worried about my bones. But I'm afraid if I tell him about the shoulder, he'll say better wait a couple more months to reduce Prednisone. I don't know who makes the kind of generic Minocycline I'm taking. I will ask the pharmacist the next time I'm there. Don't know that this helps answer questions posted about Minocycline or Minocin, but it's my experience with Minocycline. Guest guest
Bev, Has the generic minocycline by Labs been working for you? is on my list at www.tmgp.com/minocin.htm, and I would like to add your input to help others in our Group. You are right. The Humana formulary at http://www.medicare-partd.com/pics/ContentPics/Humana_PDPFormulary2007.pdf includes neither minocycline nor prednisone, both of which are generic drugs. This may be a mistake. The Medicare Formulary Finder for Prescription Drug Plans at http://formularyfinder.medicare.gov/formularyfinder/selectstate.asp shows that Humana Gold includes both minocycline and prednisone. She is also very active in a RA group with Doctors from Boston, etc. She takes Minocycline and Celebrex and she claims she is doing very well. Guest guest
Regarding actress Kathleen and Minocycline on Larry King. She didn't say what she takes, she said it wouldn't be fair. She did say and that is what really caught my attention that for years doctors treated patients with medicines that were sometimes worse than the actual disease...and then she said MTX as being one of them. So, I went and did some research to try to find out just what she takes and where she gets her info. I went to Google and punched in Kathleen Rheumatoid and up popped all the info I needed...told what she is on and who her doctors are, which they happen to be right here in Boston at the Beth Israel (a fantastic hospital). So now I am on a new mission and that is why I stopped the MTX, plus it never worked unless I just sat in my recliner and didn't move. Hope this helps... diane > > > Does anyone take Minocycline? Guest guest
Hi Diane. I have been taking minocycline for about 6 months now. When I started I was also taking celebrex (200mg/day) and plaquinil (400 mg/day). I am completely off the celebrex now, and I am down to 200mg plaquinil. I am doing very well on the minocycline. I do the pulse dosing, which is just one pill 3X/week (M,W,F). The Arthritis Foundation lists minocycline as an anti-inflammatory, but there are many who think it is really fighting infectious causes of RA. I don't know which is true, but I know I am feeling pretty good on very little medication. I still have stiffness and limited range of motion, and some fatigue. But I am working full time, and back to exercising (yoga and weight training). I can do everything I need to at home, and my husband and I are going on an overseas trip this weekend- something I couldn't dream of doing last summer. Back then, I couldn't even roll over in bed without pain. I also beloing to the rheumatic group on . And check out www.rhuematic.org. There is a lot to learn, but I am very happy with this treatment plan. I could live like this the rest of my life -- but of course, who knows what's around the corner. Good luck to you. I am praying that I am one of the fortunate ones that it will work for. It is wonderful that you are doing so well with so little medicine. I am going to try to do everything possible to stay off the " Heaving Hitting " meds. I felt tired and sick all the time on the MTX. Thanks again, diane > > Hi Diane. Guest guest
Janet, I had to suggest the minocycline. My doc would be just as happy if I didn't take it, and I will probably need to work to convince her to continue. She is doing it more to accommodate my interest. But she does want to keep her patients happy -- which is a great quality in a doctor. So even though she doesn't see the value, she will likely work with me on this. I saw improvement right away, (less pain at first, and the swelling came down in a couple of months) but I started celebrex, plaquenil and minocycline all around the same time. So of course, I can't really be sure which one is working. I am off the celebrex, but I will continue both the plaquenil and mino for quite some time I think. They say it takes at least 6 months for the mino to do any good for most people -- and many take longer. Do as much gentle stretching as you can. Even with these meds, I find I lose range very, very quickly -- and have to keep at the exercise every day or two. If I miss several days I lose a lot of ground. It's going to be a life long battle. Good luck to you. Bonnie Lou >
Guest guest
Thanks for all your help Bonnie!! Right now I am taking an antibiotic for a tooth surgery, but I have been noticing the past few days I am feeling better, but like you, I am not sure what the cause is, if it is the antibiotic, because I have been stretching my feet out three times a day, or if the diet and supplement regime I am on is finally kicking in. I guess I will wait and see, but I am definitley going to give the minocycline a try when I start meds. Right now, my husband and I are trying to have another baby before I start the drug therapy. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have an RV, one tent, 3 cots, a full size futon, three hammocks and two airbeds. If you all are able to camp, come on down. We have a large covered patio and a huge 20x20 covering over the RV. And we have a huge yard for those who want to bring their own tent. Walmart & groceries are just a few blocks away and we have an outside washer dryer and sink. Unfortunaltely we have only one toilet & shower in our house.  The weather is gorgeous both day and night, but the chickens may wake you up early in the morning. I am so used to them, I don't hear them anymore. You can hear the surf at night. There is a huge house out back that can be rented for about $1,000.00 if you want to stay a week or maybe a few days more. With airbeds, I bet we can get about ten people in there or more, so if everyone is willing to share the cost of $100.00 per week, I am sure, we could have community pot luck dinners together. The kitchen downstairs is huge as is the kitchen upstairs. That house has three levels and two complete bathrooms and also outside showers for people who want to wash off their surfboards and what nots. The beach is 350 ft below as we are on a large lot above a cliff that has the most spectcular view . But no foot access as there is too much underbrush. However the car can take you there in less than 5 min I have one car and if some of you want to share a car, there are rentals at the airport. We live 20Km from Aguadilla Airport and can fit about 3 in the backseat at a time. You don't need much luggage as most of the time we live in T-shirts, shorts and/or bathing suits. A sweater is a neccessity because most stores think it is hot outside and put the A/C on so high that sometimes I swear it will start snowing inside. So, we keep a hoodie or two in the car most times for just such occasions. We would love to meet you all and if you want to make plans, I think late March or April is the best time to come. I am cold intolerant (That is why I am here). so, if the nightime weather get lower than 72F, I start freezing! Daytime weather is in the mid to upper 80's and all summer long we get the ocean breezes to keep us cool and the mosquitos away. On a still night we turn on the tiki torch lamps with citronella oil and that keeps the pests away.  There is alway Avon's " Skin So Soft " and for non toxic repellant, we find that spraying listerine helps a lot.  If you are extremely sweet, you can always bring your own " OFF "  But mostly, we have little problems with that. If any of you are musicians, we love getting together and singing. We have several guitars, tambourines, shakers, a small bongo and Mike plays the harmonica. We have an outdoor BBQ for those who like to do the cooking. And there is an outdoor above the ground pool for cooling off when you want to besides the beach below. Oh! I forgot that we have WiFi, so if you have your laptops, you can have on-line access on my patio and in my RV. As far as I know, it doesn't reach the back house, but we have cable service and TV out on the patio for whomever wants to watch their special soap, SNL or game. It is available. There are TV's in the back house, but not sure if they are connected to cable. For those of you who wnt to arrive in San , it is a two hour ride and Mike does not like to do it. So either rent a car with others sharing cost or use a collectivo. They charge $30.00/per person. If you come in to Aguadilla airport, We can come get you, but keep the luggage load down, it is a Kia Soul not a truck.  Take care and hope we see some of you all soon. Dolores & Mike  From: mannasal@... <mannasal@...> Subject: Re: rheumatic Re: minocycline rheumatic Date: Saturday, February 12, 2011, 12:56 PM  Well actually Amy, it wasn't just " a step " The hospital van couldn't get in my drive way, so 2 people on each side of me, taking the brundt of my weight, walked me to the van.....so it 6 or more steps! Guest guest
I bags the futon !! I have the bathers, short, Tshirts etc have enough money to hire another car/RV or whatever can afford the food, drinks & whatever I need for necessities, niceties & some retail therapy whilst I am there .. I just need the money for the airfares, boo hoo Seriously though if I had the cash I would be on the next plane out ! Sounds to me like north Queensland or Bali .. & I love that evening balmy weather sitting with the torches lit having good conversation & a drink or two ( & you all thought I meant alcohol, own up, you did, didn't you!) What a lovely picture you paint you just made my day Dolores. Guest guest
Dolores, I would take you up on that trip, but we have already put money down on a choir tour to Germany in September and October. If it falls through (not enough singers) we may come and sleep on an airbed.Love you both, Eva From: Maz <maz.aust@...> Subject: rheumatic Re: minocycline rheumatic Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 7:07 PM Â I bags the futon !!
