Guest guest
I don't know if it's my secret, but I just told that I got all my medical records from my doctors for the past 2 years. I personally dropped off all of my medical records at the closest social security office. I didn't want to wait for my doctors to send them my medical records. I hired a lawyer right off the bat, I didn't wait to receive a denial letter. I don't know if that helped my cause, but I figured it wouldn't hurt me to have a lawyer from the beginning. That was it. I am just happy that I have one less thing to stress over. I know everyone's story is different. > > > > I just wanted to let everyone know that I just got approved for SSDI. > > I got approved on my first try, so I am thrilled. Guest guest
How much did a lawyer cost? I applied and at first I was denied. As soon as this happened I contacted my congressman's office and asked for his ombudsman to help me. I got my ssdi within two weeks and they gave me all my backpay. marla wrote: > > I don't know if it's my secret, but I just told that I got all > my medical records from my doctors for the past 2 years. Guest guest
Marla, I should be receiving 14 months for backpay. My lawyer takes 25% or $5300 which ever amount is lesser out of my backpay. I was talking to my lawyer today and since he really didn't do anything accept represent me, I might not have to pay him for the full amount. I would pay him for his time and cost. That I don't know yet. We were both expecting me to get denied and start the appeal process as soon as I got the denial letter. Now that I got approved...I don't know. My lawyer is waiting to receive their documentation that I was approved. I got a lawyer right away...I figured it wouldn't hurt me. I don't know if that made a difference in why I got approved on the first try. > > > > > > > > I just wanted to let everyone know that I just got approved for > > SSDI. > > > > I got approved on my first try, so I am thrilled. Guest guest
Hi ! I am so happy for you! I know it was very stressful to have to go through and I am EXTREMELY glad you didn't have to wait five years like I did!! You approached it the best way anyone can, which is to have a lawyer from the beginning. I think it also helps to, to have something more than just a condition that is pain. When I originally applied I had the FMS, MPS, heart issues, liver issues, but I think having that godawful anxiety disorder probably contributed to the overall process as well. I am so glad you will not have to wait any longer to begin receiving the help that you need:) --- <man_u8@...> wrote: > I don't know if it's my secret, but I just told > that I got all > my medical records from my doctors for the past 2 > years. Guest guest
Do you mind sharing a few details with me on how you went about applying? Online or in person, did you need paper work filled out from your RU or PCP, anything that might be helpful. I'm 31 and have been a bartender for the last 13 years and have not worked since January so I'm toying with applying for SSD since I'm losing function daily and was diagnosed with not only RA but Stills disease. Thanks, Mandi In a message dated 3/4/2008 3:25:04 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, man_u8@... writes: I just wanted to let everyone know that I just got approved for SSDI. Guest guest
Hi Marla, my name is Terri andi am 61 and have been getting treatment for rheumatoid for the last 2 yrs. My husband has to retire at the end of March and we will be without insurance. I am so scared. I have found a pilot program here in Wisconsin that i can usr for checkups and persciptions but no hospital care if i would need it. The woman i spoke with at this pilot program suggested i apply for disability, i called social security and told them my story and they said i don't qualify because i am not old enough and haven't worked in a long time and don't have enough employment credits. i was wondering if i am asking about the wrong thing when i go to s.s. office. is ssdi different from dissability help? i can survive without financial aid but i am so scared by not having health care. Guest guest
SSDI is for disability, but one must have so many credits to be eligible. There is a social security program SSI (Supplemental Income) that some get when disabled that are not eligible for SSDI. --- Terry Reinhardt <lazerloo@...> wrote: > Hi Marla, my name is Terri andi am 61 and have been > getting treatment for rheumatoid for the last 2 yrs. > My husband has to retire at the end of March and we > will be without insurance. Guest guest
Mandi, I initially did everything online that I could do. Once SSDI got my info, I was called by someone to verify my information. They needed medical release forms filled out from all the doctors who I am under their care. I had all my medical records from all my doctors and I personally dropped them off at my local SSI office. (I didn't want to hear that they got lost in the mail). I cam sure there were certain forms that my PCP, RU had to fill out. I had already talked to all my doctors and they agreed they would do the paperwork once they receive it. I didn't want it to be shock when they got the forms. All of them were very supportive, and understood the reasoning behind it. Then I just played the waiting game. When I first applied I got a lawyer. I didn't want to mess around and wanted to be prepared if I got denied. I figured if I got approved...great. I don't know if having a lawyer helped so early in the game. I figured, going to court and the appeal process costs money. If I had a lawyer that was already willing to go to bat for me it might benefit me from a finanical point of view and SSDI won't want to waste extra time and money to appeal my case from the start. (I hope that made sense). I was asked to see a psychologist since they couldn't make a descion at this time. So I went to see their specialist at the appointment time they made for me. (If SSDI tells you to be somewhere at a certain time...go regardless. If you have to cancel, they need a darn good excuse as to why you can't make the appointment). Deciding to go on SSDI is a difficult descion to make. I didn't want to apply. I had lost my job from missing too much work due to my conditions. I have worked in healthcare for my career as an administator. I got my BS in healthcare management and administation. After a job interview at a local hospital where I would be working in the ICU. Revisiting the ICU was tramatic for me, since I spent a good 6 weeks there the year before. I started to have a panic attack before the interview even started. Once I got home and told my husband what had happened and he suggested that maybe it's time that I consider SSDI. My flare-ups were starting to be more frequent and more painfull. Considering that my career was in healthcare and I was starting to have panic attacks at places were I could work, I came to hard descion to quit looking for a job and start the process of applying for disability. I know once I posted initially there has been some questions on if you qualify etc. I would suggest checking out the SSI website to see if you can find some answers. I know here in Colorado and in California someone can file paperwork to state that they care for someone who is on SSDI and get paid from the state. It's an extra $514 per month to care for someone who is declared disabled. This person does not have to be living with you and they would have to declare it on their taxes. I don't know the requirements or if it is available in every state. A friend of mine in Los Angeles gets it for taking care of her mom who severe RA and I know someone here to gets it from their roommate. I know any bit helps, especially if you can't work. Hope this answers everyone's questions. > > Do you mind sharing a few details with me on how you went about applying? > Online or in person, did you need paper work filled out from your RU or PCP, > anything that might be helpful. Guest guest
Terry, I have some advice for everyone calling any agency for information. " If it isn't in writing, it is not worth the paper it is printed on! " When you call a agency (SSA, DSS, or whoever), you do not know if you are talking to a clerk who just got the job, a supervisor with 30 years experience, someone who truly cares, or someone with their own version of the rules. Always try to find the information you are looking for in writing. Most regulations and rules are available on-line. The are not hidden, you just have to know what to search for. Now about SSI, if you have not worked, not worked enough, or you qualify for SSDI but for not much money, you can apply for SSI. The best part of SSI, if you qualify you automatically become eligible for Medicaid. There are a couple of other hoops for SSI, income and property are considered of both you and your spouse. No, SSA does not include the value of your house or car. Since your husband is retiring, can you continue you part of the insurance through COBRA. That should be a option.
