I had twins a year ago and I am still in remission....I hate to say that too

loud! I've not taken anything other than an aleve here or there. I was on

plaquenil prior to being pregnant. I was diagnosed with RA 5 years ago this

spring. I did seem to have more joint pain and swelling during my pregnancy than

most. I had to be on a short course of prednisone. Good Luck!

Congratulations on your twins! I have fraternal twin granddaughters,

now 3, they are so special. I am continually fascinated by their

interaction with each other, very different behavior than my singles

at that age! Hope you stay in remission, because they will keep you

busy. :)

How long after you found out you were pregnant did you

notice relief of pain? I just found out I am

pregnant, I was diagnosed with RA in January, since

then I decided not to take any medication other than

aleve and try to get pregnant again. It was after my

first pregnancy that I started to get the joint pain

and beginning stages of RA. Now I am hoping I will go

into a remission during my pregnancy. Nothing is

happening yet, I have stopped taking the aleve and I

am having a hard time walking and using one of my

wrists.

Thanks,

Janet

Congratulations Janet! I'm butting in on your message. I'm 24 weeks pg and I

was discouraged to not go into remission right away. I thought that the

positive hpt would spell remission! Instead I found that it slowed somewhat as

I went into the 2nd trimester. I could cut down on the prednisone and do Enbrel

every other week. My son and husband just got over pneumonia, so I've actually

held my Enbrel since 2/14 and I'm doing pretty well. This is the longest I've

ever gone w/o it and not ended up with a megaflare. So for me, it's not so much

remission, but a reduction in symptoms.

HI ! How long have you had RA? Have you ever

tried minocycline? When you take the Enbrel does the

pain go away, or does it just lessen? I am wondering

if I will ever be able to run with my kids.

Thanks,

Janet

Hi Janet, I was first symptomatic with RA in 1998 but was misdiagnosed as

reactive arthritis b/c my labs were all high normal and they hadn't come out

with the antiCCP test yet. My joint pain and fatigue simmered for many years

and I took high doses of NSAIDS. I was in the military and they just sort of

managed the symptoms with cortisone injections, Vioxx, and Celebrex rather than

working me up for autoimmune stuff. Then in 2006 my knee puffed up and got

really achy and hot to the touch. I had been fatigued all through 2005 so I

figured something was up. I saw a rheum who discovered all my labs had

" converted " to be consistent with RA and I had very high antiCCP antibodies.

Nope, I've never tried minocycline. Since my diagnosis in Dec 2006 I've taken

Indocin (blech!!! made me sick), Celebrex, prednisone, and Enbrel. My magic

combo has been the pred + Enbrel and of course the care of absolutely rockin'

and supportive OBs and rheumatologists. I

felt the Enbrel start working w/i the first week. I had been so stiff in the

mornings and would gel up during my long Washington DC commute or while sitting

at my desk during the day. The Enbrel took *all* of that away. My body still

craves the pred, and I'm hoping to get off of that eventually. I'm thinking of

maybe trying p'nil after the baby comes, or just resuming Enbrel and hoping to

keep up a prednisone taper once the baby comes. Anyway, Enbrel has given me my

life back. I have more energy, I can exercise, I can work full time, I'm

practically a normal person! I still have flares when I have to be off it for

some reason, but my most fervent wish is that I always get this kind of result

from my drugs. Consider using an antiTNF if your rheum agrees. The animal

studies and case reports don't indicate that they are dangerous in pregnancy.

Then again, we don't know completely that they're safe either. I'm enrolled in

the OTIS studies and

they can do counseling over the phone about drug safety if you're concerned 877

311-8972. Keep me posted! Hugs, Kate F

Janet,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. It took me until my 3rd trimester until my RA got

better. I had a lot of swelling and pain in my feet the 1st & 2nd. I took only

tylenol but I did have a week course of steroids duing my 2nd trimester. I was

afraid of the flare that occurs normally post partum-but like I said I've been

fortunate not to have that happen. I hope the same for you! I didn't breast

feed (mostly due to having twins, it was pretty tuff) ; I don't know if the

hormones associated with breast feeding are involved in how quickly inflammation

returns. I wish you luck, I'm 31, this has all happened in a time in life when

you are wanting a family, career, etc. It's difficult enough to balance when

you're completely healthy!
