I recently received mail from Jeff

Metcalf, an English professor at the University

of Utah, diagnosed in

2004. He began keeping a journal and then wrote a play which opens this

summer. The performance is described as humorous and disturbing, informative

and eye-opening. The public radio series Hearing Voices from NPR has posted a

hour-long radio version of the play at their website which you can access as a downloadable

MP3 file at http://hearingvoices.com/news/prostate/

I am not sure what to make of this piece –

whether it would help men who are newly diagnosed or even if it would

encourage men to have their annual DRE and PSA tests. I would be most

interested in any views on the subject although since It runs 54 minutes, my

guess is that not many people will listen to it, although , as I say, you could

listen to it on your MP3 player instead of your music!

All the best

Terry Herbert

I have no medical qualifications but I was diagnosed

in ‘96: and have learned a bit since then.

My sites are at www.yananow.net and www.prostatecancerwatchfulwaiting.co.za

Dr

“Snuffy” Myers : " As a physician, I am painfully aware that most of the decisions

we make with regard to prostate cancer are made with inadequate data "
