Guest guest
I used them for a short while when my Mom kept waking and coughing/choking on her saliva. Actually, I believe the problem was that she was not swallowing often enough while sleeping. Though it will drive the mouth (and I used less than prescribed), it didn't work well for my Mom since she sleeps with her mouth open and her mouth is too dry to begin with. The Atropine made it even more dry. I had to choose between which was worse. I used less of the atropine only once a day at night and then stopped. Hope this helps a little. Guest guest
Atropine is anticholinergic so can have anticholinergic side effects, including worsening mental confusion, hallucinations, and difficulty walking. If your mother is not talking and not walking, there's less of an issue. In any case, monitor closely. The only treatment for excessive saliva that isn't anticholinergic is botox. > > Has anyone used atropine to control excessive saliva? >
