Guest guest
Mindy - before I was diagnosed with PSC, I used to get severe pain, just below the sternum. Sometimes it lasted minutes, sometimes hours, the last time 1/2 day (before I went to the ER). I can't say it felt like a stomach ache, more like gas pain. I believe it was " sludge blockage " of bile - just in a little different place than most (upper right quadrant pain is more typical). Since I was dilated and stented, it's gone away (knock on wood). Gall bladder pain was much worse, but definitely URQ - I don't have to worry about that one anymore! What level is the pain (on a 10 scale, 10 being worst). What does the GI say? Arne 51 - UC 1977 - PSC 2000 Alive and (mostly) well in Minnesota -----Original Message----- From: mindy_wagner Hi everyone. It's been along time since I've posted. Last fall my dh was diagnosed with UC and PSC. His stomach aches are just horrible and sometimes they just last all day everyday for weeks. So far the doctors haven't found a medication that will help them. He just had another colonoscopy today since it had been awhile and it looks as though his UC is in remission. His colon is back to normal so why could he still having such horrible stomach aches? It doesn't even seem to matter what he eats or doesn't eat. Does anyone else have this problem or have any insight? Thanks, MINDY

Guest guest
Hi. Okay I've interrogated my husband about this stomach ache/pain and this is what he told me. Everyday he has them (aches) normally about a 4-5 (pain scale) annoying, constantly there but he can function normally..2-3 days a week it's like around a 7 and the other day he was trying to put a heat pack on it and he said that day was about a 9. Our last GI thought it was probably his UC because he had a bad flare up but they haven't gone away and now he is in remission from that, his colon looks good and he has them pretty bad. They are normally in his right side. We have recently moved and this doctor did a colonoscopy to check things out, still in remission, and is giving us yet another stomach medicine to try. None have worked so far. Mike has not yet had an ERCP. The doctors at mayo did an MRCP but said the other was to evasive. This doctor said he would like to do one. I always thought the stomach aches was related to UC but could it could be related to the PSC you think?? I didn't realize others had this. He is just sick of feeling yucky and having noone able to tell him why these stomach aches aren't leaving. Thanks so much for your email!! Guest guest
I have the same kind of pain as Arne when I have a blockage -- luckily I haven't had one in awhile! Guest guest
Wish I could help but I don't know. I used to have lots of stomach problems, constant diarrhea, some days I would eat just baby food. I had to be so careful what I eat, it caused terrible bloating if I ate anything raw but after 10 years and a specialist in Columbia they gave me Flagyl, I took it about 2 months and I don't have near the trouble I used to have. Sometimes it takes a different Dr. to find the problem. They said in Columbia my problem was an overgrowth of bacteria in the gut, but of course the colonoscopy or any tests didn't show it. |Good Luck Martha from Mo
Guest guest
Sounds like you had clostridium difficile bacteria that overtook your normal bactia! Glad you are better!(C. Diff) causes bad stomache cramps and gas and bloating and very loose stools plus sometimes mucous and bleeding. It is psuedomembranous ulc. colitis so the symptoms are similar to UC.
