So far, things are moving along nicely. He is experiencing some urgency and frequency problems and mild diarrhea. The nurse practitioner advised him to eliminate sugar free soda from his diet and to take Imodium when necessary. He will see his doctor at the end of this week. - how are things going with you? Thanks to all for your experience and knowledge and kind thoughts. NY
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for update. I should have reached the half way mark of my treatment on Friday past, however the hospital told me last Wed that the Friday session would be cancelled as the IGRT equipment was due for a service on Friday. Treatment 20 will therefore be on Monday. Quite nice to have three days off from treatment. I havent had any diarrhea, in fact last weekend I had the opposite for 4 days and my Doc prescribed Plantaben which is a powder you turn into a drink made from Ispaghula husk, a plant fibre that substantially softens ones stools and has worked very well for me. is right however, when you have to go, you HAVE to go NOW! I haven't had any pain urinating, infact sometimes everything has been strangely sensationless. I drink cranberry juice and green tea, neither of which I liked until I tried mixing them together 50/50. Result is quite pleasant and keeps my volume of urine up. I always lie down for an hour after treatment tho rarely sleep and I think this has kept any tiredness at bay. Infact I have been doing plumbing work for a disabled friend all this week which involved some quite heavy digging and cement mixing with no problems.I have found to my cost this weekend that I can't drink alcohol to much extent though. I was at a party on Friday night and I paid for a few too many glasses of wine for much of today! I'm really pleased with the current lack of side effects and hope this continues, and I am very pleased I decided on this course of treatment. Regards to you and (and anyone else in treatment), Malaga, Spain Two Week Update Hi all:I thought I'd let you all know that has completed two weeks of IMRT with Calypso. Guest guest
Oh I forgot to add that I clicked on a link sent by B with an article on statin use during radiation therapy. I have fairly high cholesterol anyway (even though my diet has always been pretty healthy) and was planning to ask my usual Doc about it and possibly going on statins after the treatment. However I printed off the article and my Uro Doc was pretty impressed with it's provenance( the ASTRO meeting in Boston last week) and prescribed statins for me straight away (last Monday). The article basically said that statin use could lower biomechanical failure rates during radiation therapy ie increase the chances of a total cure. She was going to check it out in more detail and get back to me this Monday during our regular chat session. The statins (simvastatin) were very cheap at 2.74Euro for a months supply of 10mg pills. Guest guest
FWIW -- My physiotherapist (who specializes in incontinence) says that: 1. Caffeine is bad -- that covers Coke, Pepsi, and all other " cola drinks " , including the diet varieties (except Coke Zero, which has no caffeine). 2. _Carbonation_ is bad -- that covers " Coke Zero " and all the non-cola soft drinks. She advises drinking water. Yuck! > > Hi all: > I thought I'd let you all know that has completed two weeks of > IMRT with Calypso. So far, things are moving along nicely. Guest guest
Today,we saw the dietitian. She advised to eliminate all artificial sweeteners from his diet and to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Additionally. he is to add bananas, unsweetened applesauce and oatmeal to see if this will help tighten up the stools. He is to avoid broccoli and cabbage and those are gaseous and irritating vegetables. Raw fruits and vegetables should be avoided but can be eaten cooked. These should be on the soft side rather than crunchy. He can eat potatoes, pasta, rice, quinoa, kasha, etc. We will follow up with her next week.
