Guest guest
Just out of curiosity do you know what the price difference is between the pills and Injectable? Does it come with the needles or do you purchase separate? And where can you inject it?? In a message dated 3/8/2008 12:48:35 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, betnden@... writes: I've read many posts from members that are having trouble with their dosage of MTX pills. Bad effects seem to be the norm and you ladies (mostly) suffer without knowing what to do to make it better to take them. What is the reason for suffering like that when the liquid form is so much easier and much less expensive? For a number of years I took it in a glass of orange juice or other breakfast drink without problems, but now that I'm taking a larger dose, I have to inject it. That's easier than trying to remember to take them spread out during a hectic day. It's a lot cheaper and without the normal side effects you all are suffering. This is something to talk with your Rheumy about, it could be a Godsend. And, make sure you are taking the appropriate amount of Folic Acid, it's a MUST! Guest guest
I know I'm not dennis but my vial of mtx cost me around $21.00 and lasts me a little over a month. I had to get the syringes myself, but my insurance covered them. However they did not cover the mtx. It took me about 2 months to get them to cover the enbrel so I decided to just eat the $21.00 a month for the mtx. Guest guest
Maybe its just me, but I have never had any problems taking mine, no side effects or anything, I take 5 pills a week and take all 5 at one time on Sat mornings. One inject once every 2 weeks is more than enough for me and the husband has to give me it cause I cannot do it myself. I do get allergy shots once a week though, but go to the doc for those also In a message dated 3/8/2008 1:41:31 P.M. Guest guest
When I first started MTX in 1990, the tabs were $3 each, paid out-of-pocket, 3 per week. Then it increased to $4 each and later raised to 4 per week. It then went up to $5 each and I was to start taking 5 per week. That's when I put my foot down. I simply couldn't afford them since I didn't have SSD or a job. My Rheumy called the pharmacy at the hospital to check on the price of liquid MTX that I could take orally. It was $4.64 per 2cc vial or 2 vials for $5.45! I was absolutely dumbfounded when I considered what I had been paying for the pills and the things we sacrificed to pay for them. Zooming ahead to now, I've gone from .8cc per week to the 'max' of 1.2cc injected sub-Q. I'm getting the meds from my local WalMart pharmacy and get either 6 or 12 vials, depending on who's filling the order. Technically, I can only take 1.2cc from each vial and discard the rest because there are no preservatives. The total price for these vials is around $29 per order. That's a lot less than the $21 per vial mentioned by . I'd be on a shopping quest before giving in to that 'theft'. I inject mine on Saturday night when we fill our pill cases for the coming week, and put it in my stomach, leg, arm, or any other handy spot that doesn't hurt. I've also never had a noticeable side effect except when the Rummy at the hospital increased the MTX and not the Folic Acid, so my tongue swelled to fill my mouth and made it hard for me to talk. Right now, I'm taking 3-5mg Folic Acid, and my tongue is permanently swelled and stiffer than before, all because the Rummy and his 'nurse' didn't think or do. And I'm back with my original Rheumy and doing well again. Guest guest
My insurance will not cover MTX in the injectable form. Now, I rarely have side effects unless I go over one week between doses. Guest guest
My ins. covers both. I use the inject. type as the pills made me so sick every day, etc. The dr. gives me a prescrip. for the needles and MTX ,as I inject myself each week. I usually use my thighs, alternating each side. Hope this helps. I don't know the diff. in price. Re: [ ] Starting Met DENNIS- WHY? My insurance will not cover MTX in the injectable form.
