Hi

My sister got the results yesterday and we had a quick conversation and I am

picking up my copy tomorrow. But it is positive for LBD bodies & plaques

throughout brain.

So it was LBD and the pathologist said they were surprised with his large extent

of disease that we were able to manage him at home.

,

Thanks again to you and your family for donating your dad's brain.

I'm thinking you are using " LBD " to mean " Lewy body disease. "

As you probably know, there's no such thing as a pathological diagnosis of Lewy

Body Dementia. Upon brain autopsy, the only way to determine if someone had

Parkinson's Disease or Parkinson's Disease Dementia is to know WHERE in the

brain the LBs were. Was your father diagnosed with " Diffuse Lewy Body Disease " ?

Did the neuropathologist, in a section written for laypeople, indicate the

" likelihood " of a clinical diagnosis of Dementia with Lewy Bodies?

If your father had plaques but not tangles, he was probably also diagnosed with

" pathological aging. " Someone would have to have both plaques and tangles to be

diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

Take care,

Robin
