Guest guest
I started Lyrica for my Fibro in December. It didn't make me sleepy (that would have been nice, since I have major insomnia from the prednisone . . . ) but it sure did make me dizzy. The first day was the worst, then after another 3 or 4 days, it started to go away. Took about two weeks. Then, of course, he increased my dose. Not as bad as the first time, but still was very unsteady for about a week. Every now and then I still feel a little unsteady or out of it, but it certainly has helped my pain and stiffness! Hope it helps you as much as it's helped me. I'm also on prednisone, methotrexate, and Humira. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for all the responses. I picked up my Lyrica today and will start on it tonight. I am sorta dreading it as I sure don't need to gain any more weight (listed as one of the side effects) and the sleepiness worries me some too. I have a special needs child. The directions are to slowly increase the dosage over a period of one week. I will let you all know how it affects me. I am also on Enbrel and MTX, as well as meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Gee, I get tired of taking meds. lol Phyllis
Guest guest
One of my docs wants me to start that and I too have worried about the weight gain. I can handle the sleepiness because I have a problem with NOT being about to sleep at night because of pain. PLEASE LET ME KNOW how it affects you!! Be well!! D. Guest guest
Good luck on the medication! I tried it and gained 9 lbs in almost one week. I had to stop it as my knees have joint effusions and it was very bad for them to have that weight added. It didn't affect my sleep at all or make me sleep better. I've been on prescribed medication to help insomnia for the past few years. My doctor had another patient that had to stop the Lyrica and then he had some that did completely fine on it and were able to continue. --- <ltdavis_jrdavis@...> wrote: > One of my docs wants me to start that and I too have > worried about the weight gain. Guest guest
I'm not going to worry about the weight. I am trying to quit smoking after having smoked 39 yrs. All I want to do is eat anyway. So ...........I started the Lyrica last night. It did make me a bit sleepy but as usual, I had trouble falling asleep. I'm starting out at 100 mgs. I'll take it again tonight. I'm discovering that the more rest I get, the better I feel. You would think that common sense would have told me that. lol But I have a horrible time sleeping so it's a big deal to me. Guest guest
Phyllis, Congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking! That is one thing that you can do to improve your health that will save you money, too. I quit 14 years ago after 34 years of smoking, and I was up to at least three packs a day. So, just remember, it can be done. You just have to believe that it's possible. I'm living proof that it's possible, and I'd probably be dead by now if I hadn't quit. Good luck to you! You can do it! Guest guest
I second the congrats since my wife and I quit in '88. She had encouragement in the way of pneumonia at Christmastime and quit on the spot after smoking 3+ packs a day for a lot of years. I was only smoking a pack a day and used the gum for a couple of months. It's quite a pleasure taking a deep breath without coughing, and I've been healthier all around since then. I've also had trouble sleeping as long as I can remember, and am now taking Ambien along with my antidepressant, and sometimes a Soma. I still have some trouble sleeping because of the pain or tension but it's still a lot better than before. Anything's better most of the time. Guest guest
Thanks for the no smoking support! I'm really struggling right now. Wanting to smoke so bad that I'm jittery as can be. lol But I'm hanging in there. Also, the rheumy told me that smoking can cause the RA to flare big time. So.........I'll keep trying! Guest guest
Hang in there Phyllis, Its one of the hardest thing you will ever do, but believe me you will feel so much better. You will also be able to smell the spring flowers. What a lot of people don't realize is that when you smoke you loose a portion of your sense of smell. I was shocked. I stopped in 1991 after 18 years. Heidi M On Tue, Mar 4, 2008 at 11:07 AM, Phyllis <mammap@...> wrote: > Thanks for the no smoking support! Guest guest
Thanks! I have smoked for almost 39 years. But I am looking forward to when it isn't so overwhelming and I know that day will come. Guest guest
Hey Phyllis, You CAN do it! I gave up a 25 year, 2-pack a day habit. 2 things that made the quitting more tolerable... I took a short walk whenever I had a craving and I used a straw. Seriously. I cut a straw in half so that it was about the length of a cigarette and just " puffed " on it when I went crazy with my empty hands. It sounds weird but it really helped my habit/psychological craving. Best of luck to you! Kim > > Thanks for the no smoking support! I'm really struggling right now.
