Guest guest
Hi there - I'm curious how many on this list are in or around the Austin, TX area? A friend and I who were both recently diagnosed with RA are going to start a meet up/ support group here. If you live in the area, shoot me an email to get on the list if you are interested in joining and/or helping us spread the word. Thanks! Guest guest
I am in the Austin area. A group would be nice. Not sure if I would ever be able to attend. Between work and an hour commute one way to get there...I am pretty exhausted by the end of the day and still have to go home to take care of my family. The choices of rheummies here is very limited. I have seen most and I have not pleased by the care of any so far. I could write a book on issues I have had with doctors in this area. Guest guest
Toni, I agree with you about the limited number of rheummies here (Austin) so you may wish to consider a referral to & White's main campus in nearby Temple. They ( & White in Temple) were the ones who were finally able to diagnose and treat my husband's polymyositis. Everyone here was stumped and blamed his condition (undiagnosed polymyositis) on everything from age, to heart to osteoarthritis to heaven knows what all only to watch all of their misdiagnosis fail while he deteriorated before my very crying eyes. Thank goodness one night when Bob (my husband) was barely able to walk we (our son and I) acted strictly out of desperation and took Bob to the ER at & White's Round Rock facility. We do not live in that area or even close to that area but since we knew that the other options were failing us and worse yet my husband was going downhill so rapidly we knew we needed a fresh set of eyes who would not simply look at the notes from the others doctors who were so grossly wrong. (Sorry, this is a very emotional issue for me.) I am delighted to say that Bob is doing even better than we could have hoped for and for that I will always be grateful to our son (he was the one that insisted on & White) and most of all I will always be grateful to the doctors at and White who truly listened to us and helped us to get to this day. Guest guest
Debbie, The only doc I have seen at ADC is Dr. Cepeda. He was OK. Did not take a lot of time for a new patient. The office staff seemed rather busy and not really interested in speaking with. That is the nurse was that way. The receptionist and appnt setter were very nice and attentive. He was the one that sent me for a Functional Capacity Exam as I was on private funded Long Term Disability from my former employer. Then from those results he did not see me again and wrote to my insurance I could do any job I wanted and work full time with NO restrictions....I was immediately terminated from my LTD. I did not return to him. He also was not one to write for pain meds...to me to find a pain management specialist...and gave a piece of paper with a list docs on it. I am happy with my doctor in the big clinic. He won't give me a muscle relaxant since he put me on Neurontin to help my sleep. Guest guest
Hi Toni, Thanks for warning me about Dr Cepeda. He must be Dr Crout's partner then. That's horrible what he told you after your Functional Capacity Exam. Hope another doctor agreed you needed the Long Term Disability. When I first saw Dr Crout he did an extensive work up on me to see if I had RA or Lupus also. Both RA and Lupus tests were negative. He only gives me Ultram and Darvocet for pain. Last year he gave me Neurontin to help me sleep but cancelled my Soma which I really need. Still refuses to give me a muscle relaxant. He does take care of any new problems I have. Guest guest
Debbie, I think they are in the same office. Its really sad....the poor choices in rheumatology here. I got similar treatment at and White with Dr. Abercrombie. She is no longer there...thank god...she retired. There is a new doc. Sharon hubby is seeming him and says he is wonderful. If scott and white did not have soooo many billing issues I would jump over there. I really do not know who to tell you too see...Dr Fung is very good...but he is in Waco. He is the only one I would really recommend. Dr. Jundt is OK...a bit too much of a drama queen to be a doc....but he was kind and patient. He will give pain meds and meds that he feels you need.He does not draw lab in office. You have to go to independent lab and xray. He does do bone density in office. I just wish someone would open a clinic with a good rheummy, pain management and primary care. I would jump on it!
