Guest guest
My name is Jan and I just turned 45 in January. I was diagnosed with RA about 6 months ago, but have some health problems that complicate my treatment. I was hoping I might get some advice or suggestions from all of you that have been dealing with this longer than myself. Right now my doctor is treating me with Mobic and Minocycline and recently started Oxycontin for the pain. I also take 4-8mg of prednisone daily. Well, this is not helping me. I also have an immune deficiency that makes me suceptible to infections, I have a tracheostomy due to an airway obstruction and I am diabetic. I also have a very long list of allergies to antibiotics and other meds. Because of the immune problem and the allergies my doctor wanted to be conservative with treatment. He didn't want to kill me right off the bat. LOL. So he said we'd try this drug regimine for 6 months. Well it has been that long and I am not able to sleep more than 3-4 hours a night due to the pain and my hands are so bad I can't cut my own food right now. The doc had talked about the TNF drugs like remicade and Humira but since they can have such serious side effects he didn't want to try them in case I died from a bad reaction. Can anyone make any treatment suggestions? I should add that over the past few years I have been on about every anti inflammatory drug and stuff like Methotrexate, Sulfasalazine, etc and none worked. (They initially diagnosed me with AS.) I would appreciate any suggestions!Even about how to deal with the pain. Thanks, Jan
