It can take from 3 to 5 years just to turn the corner. Ethel

Guest guest
Hi ette I had a course of acupuncture last year without any success. I was desperate to try anything to relieve the pain and went for weekly sessions for about 2 months. Unfortunately in my case I felt it actually made the pain worse, but this may have been due to the deep massage the therapist used prior to inserting the needles. Once in place the therapist used either manual manipulation of the needles or a mild electrical current and then left them in place for about 20 minutes. I found the experience quite relaxing as I went straight from work and looked forward to the massage and lie down in a quiet room, but always suffered an increase in pain afterwards and for the following few days. Guest guest
I would be interested in hearing more about acupuncture if anyone knows. I have had a persistent swollen right hand specifically in my knuckles. Wonder if acupuncture can relieve the swollenness? It has not gone down since Jan 1 2003. Guest guest
ette. I have used acupuncture for various things and have liked the results. I have not specifically used it for RA symptoms. But I have been seeing an acupressurist for the past year and have found great improvement. I think those treatments help the body to heal itself. I also know that acupuncture does not work for everyone under all conditions. Take care, Ute
Guest guest
Hi ette! Geoff here. " I am hoping that between these two things I will be able to avoid the harsher meds and to start to go off my 5 mg. of prednisone... Has anyone else tried accupuncture? " Before you start weaning off the Prednisone, you might want to read the protocol posted at www.healingyou.org/prednisone.html for some hints, tips, what to expect and how to proceed. For folks who've only been on Prednisone a short time, coming off if usually uneventful; but for those who've been on it awhile it can be very difficult, and the last 3 mg and under can be especially treacherous. Yes, I tried accupuncture. It helped with some things but not others. If you do a little reading on it, it will probably be a bit easier understanding what you can and cannot reasonably expect from it. However, don't fall into the trap of thinking that pneumonia is isolated from the bruise on the leg. Each of us is a highly integrated interdependent whole, not an assembly of isolated independent parts. What effects one part of our body effects the whole, thus better health in the wrist helps improve health elsewhere, if by no other means than releasing greater resources to the immune system to fight someplace else, like the feet. " Accupuncture may help if there is neural involvement. However, that is not always the case, especially if you have one of the rheumatic diseases. In that case RheuMax (www.healingyou.org) may prove to be more effective. Guest guest
Hi Gang, Has anyone tried accupuncture for RA? I was wondering if anyone had any luck with this. I did something called a float at a local (sortof) spa. It is like an oversized kiddie pool filled with super salinated water. They dim the lights and music and you float in the water for an hour. It felt wonderful as you do actually float - no pressure points, no hitting the bottom. I did leave feeling energized, alert and better than I had in a while. Too bad it's an hour away from home and pricey. This was a wonderful spa and it was wonderful to see how the other half lives. Debbie - I can relate to your dropping things. That happens to me. There are times I just have to get others to open things for me. One of the guys at work has been wonderful as his wife had RA and he understands the trouble that I have with things like that. I also think that the slippage I had with the rotary cutter was related to the RA. Of course I like to blame all evil things in my life on the RA. You may want to document when this happens and what was going on for review with your Doc. Take care of yourself. Meg in MO
Guest guest
I go to my acupuncturist before my family doctor these days, but my acupuncturist is an MD (and practices emergency medicine on the side). I have used his recommendation for chinese herbs in the past with positive results, but now I'm not comfortable with that. I'm not convinced of the safety of what is coming out of China. So I go to my acupuncturist, and then my ND for her input on herbs, then buy herbal capsules, tinctures, teas from a local trusted source that uses only organic/wildcrafted plants. TCM has been very helpful for us. > > Does anyone know about accuncture and chinese herbal remedies? >
Guest guest
So in the past you felt comfortable using the Chines herbs, but not now? Guest guest
So should I take what he gave us and have a Master herbalist try to give us something similar? I want to stick with this acupuncturist since he has worked wonders for my friends and me.
