Guest guest
Has anyone switched from methotrexate taken orally to methotrexate by injection? My rheumatologist wants me to try in order to decrease my prednisone use. I already inject Enbrel and do not look forward to yet another injection - however, I am willing to try if it works. Thanks
Guest guest
My RA doc switched me to MTX injections a few weeks back because the pills made me so sick, seriously messing with my digestive systems. The injections made a huge difference. Not only do I not get sick anymore, but I also don't get the fatigue the pills caused either. I take 8cc once a week. I too take Enbrel once a week. The MTX syringes are smaller and for me easier to inject. I do them on the same day. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
I do enbrel & mtx injections. the mtx pills were doing a serious number on my stomach, and the injectable is cheaper by far. My legs take turns each week. > > Has anyone switched from methotrexate taken orally to methotrexate by > injection? My rheumatologist wants me to try in order to decrease my > prednisone use. Guest guest
I am taking 5-10mg every other day depending on I how feel. To be honest I just want to be off of this, since it is a steroid. I know my doctor also wants me to do methotrexate with my hemira, but when I was first diagnosed they put me on methotrexate but I had a really bad/embarrassing side effect--I had the runs. good luck, NELLIESTAR@... wrote: > My rheumatologist wants me to try in order to decrease my > prednisone use.>>>> > How much are you taking per day in mgs? Guest guest
Oral methotrexate gave me awful tummy problems...belly aches, diarrhea...yuck. Switching to methotrexate injections was the best move! I did not experience any more stomach problems. I take methotrexate and Humira and it has been really helpful. Guest guest
Thanks for the input - I am optimistic that I will have good results as well. My doctor seems to really think it makes a difference. It is just the thought of injecting twice a week that stinks for me. F. s epete367@... I may be starting this in the near future and am concerned about my ability to stick a needle in me LOL. I know I will do what has to be done, but the mere thought makes me squirmy. Guest guest
Yes, I switched. Oral mtx made me very sick - extreme nausea, severe headache, etc. Injection has no side effects for me, so I'm happy with it. in Texas epete367 <epete367@...> wrote: Has anyone switched from methotrexate taken orally to methotrexate by injection? Guest guest
I've been taking MTX for almost 20 years, starting with the $3 pills, then $4, then $5,.. Get the picture? When I couldn't afford them any more, my Rheumy checked on the liquid. It was $5 for 2 ea 2cc vials, enough to replace 2 months of pills. I would add it to orange juice and drink it. I had no ill effects with that method. Now, I'm injecting 1.2 cc each week, the maximum amount, as I understand it. I have a small problem with finding syringes that can give the full dose at one time, and have settled on the standard insulin type. I've decided to pull all the MTX I can into the standard 100 unit syringe, very near 1.2 cc without the plunger coming all the way out. The MTX comes in a 2 cc vial already mixed, or it can be compounded for you by some pharmacies. I'd rather have the pre-mixed vials for convenience and low cost. And, after you 'shoot' yourself a few times, it gets to be old hat and boring, and sometimes painful. Guest guest
My doctor prescribed insulin needles and vials of MTX. The nurse at the Dr's office showed me how to use the needle. I would make sure you got instruction too. > > > > I do enbrel & mtx injections. the mtx pills were doing a serious > > number on my stomach, and the injectable is cheaper by far. Guest guest
The Enbrel I take comes in a pre-filled syringe. The methotrexate has to be drawn from the bottle and then injected. It is a small, straight needle. I inject methotrexate on Sunday and Enbrel on Wednesday. Not much fun but hopefully helpful. F. s epete367@... Guest guest
I am doing the same thing, MTX injections to drop the Prednisone. I will say I am not as sick from the injection, its less painful than the enbrel shot. I have it given to me in the hiney, just easier for me. But I will say this...I am noticing a huge difference in my mood from tapering the prednisone. IDK if this happens for evryone but I am grouchy! Also the appetite is considerably less, the MTX makes me not hungry and the lower dose of prednisone isnt stimulating my appetite like the higher doses did. Im still happy I switched tho. > > If my new doctor starts me on injections, are they likely to make me as > sick as the pills did? >
