Thanks... Gleason was 3 + 3 and yes he did mention Active surv as a

possibility. Spoke with my original Urologist who of course scoffed

at the idea of HIFU as its not well known here in the States.

Dr. Wheeler in Sarasota, FL is one of the first who believes in it.

Yes please send me the document tom@... it would be

appreciated.

HIFU patients on www.yananow.net. There is detaIled information on

HIFU on www.ukhifu.co.uk If you do decide to go for HIFU make sure

they are offering rectal cooling as this seems to give the best

outcomes ( I think that some systems are also now offering urethral

cooling). Cost in the UK is £12000 in the provinces, £15000 in London.

as to whether you are suitable for HIFU treatment and also whether

active surveillance is appropriate. I was 48 at diagnosis (gleason

4+3=7, PSA 5.6)and ultimatley decided to go for IGRT partly because

it was available locally and opting for HIFU would have meant a

return to the UK. I very nearly enrolled on a UK National Health

Service focal HIFU treatment study in London and received a detailed

report on exactly what the treatment would involve and all possible

aspects of outcomes from it. I can e-mail this document to you if you

would like me to; it is probably the most informative and unbiased

report on what to expect from HIFU. In the end I have been very very

pleased with the IGRT as I had very few side effects and at the

moment no ED,no incontinence, nor any bowel problems.
