Guest guest
I should probably say that when I was growing up, we had breakfast items for supper and if we wanted them and they were left over, we could have supper things for breakfast. That's why I eat in such a strange fashion. Ideas for breakfast > >> > >> I'm looking for some ideas for breakfast besides hot cereal. Guest guest
Hi, I do have a question about the oatmeal. Do you get the regular kind or the instant kind and how much do you fix per serving. Thanks. Terri Ideas for breakfast > > >> I'm looking for some ideas for breakfast besides hot cereal. Guest guest
Hi Terri. I never eat oatmeal. For one of those packetts of just the regular with nothing on it is from 30 to 45 grams of carbs depending on the brand. Guest guest
1 piece of fruit, based on the size, is from 15 grams of carbs to 30. 1 slice of bread is around 15 to 22 grams based on the brand. Peanut butter, for 1 tablespoon, is 7 to 10 grams based on the brand. So, you would be looking at around 45 to 55 grams of quick acting carbs for that breakfast. Most of the time, for breakfast, due to the dawn effect, you want to limit those to around 15 to 30 and the reast of your meals at around 30. Guest guest
the ADA exchange diet is not the best choice. The reason for that is they have your diet 80% quick acting carbs and 20% meats/veggies. They feel that meats amd fats cause stroke/heart condition in diabetic rather than realizing that carbs break to sugar and spike you and high sugars cause the problems. The ADA are now just starting to half way admit that carbs may have something to do with high sugars. Regards, Ideas for breakfast > I'm looking for some ideas for breakfast besides hot cereal. Guest guest
I don't know what brand of peanut butter is 7-10g of carbs, but I use Skippy peanut butter and it's 3g of carbs per tablespoon. That might be a possibility for people wanting to use peanut butter. I should mention I'm in Canada, maybe the ingredients are different in the U.S. > Peanut butter, for 1 tablespoon, is 7 to 10 grams based on the brand. > > Regards, > > Ideas for breakfast > > >> > > >> I'm looking for some ideas for breakfast besides hot cereal. Guest guest
Hi Jenn. Most brands of peanut butter have some form of OSE sugar in it to sweeten it and the carb count is around 7 grams per tablespoon. Skippy at 3 grams is good! Peanut butter is one of those YMMV (your milage may vary) foods that can spike some and not spike others. Guest guest
Thank you, I will keep that in mind. We don't go there very often as it isn't close, but maybe I can talk someone in to going to check out diabetic things for mom. By the way, I went to the American Diabetic Association website, and for the most part, it was a lot of advertising for businesses and diet sites charging money for their products. I was surprised since I thought it would be altogether different. At least I found something, this time. Ideas for breakfast > > I'm looking for some ideas for breakfast besides hot cereal. Guest guest
It is the conversion of carbohydrates by the liver that causes the rise in the blood glucose level and the production of triglycerides which are then converted to even more fats that cause the problem with fats or high lipid levels in the blood stream. Insulin is a storage hormone, which carries nutrition to all the cells of the body and converts excessive glucose into stored fat in the body. You know that fat reserve that is located on the lower abdomen in most diabetics. For years now the medical profession has had it all wrong. The fat you eat is not transported directly from your stomach to your liver and then into the blood stream. Fat is metabolized first into its smaller components and converted into fuel called glucose, a carbohydrate of the simplest kind. Then the excess glucose is converted into fat and stored by the use of hormone called insulin. Protein under goes a similar metabolism. If I am wrong, some one will have to correct me now. It is the high consumption of carbohydrates that cause all that fat clogging fat in the arteries and not the consumption of protein and fat. My cardiologist had it half right 18 years ago, when he told me not to consume more than two ounces of fat per day. I would have been better off had he told me not to consume more than two ounces of carbs per day. Let's see here now... there are 28 grams in an ounce and two times 28 grams would be 56 grams of carbs, which would be just about right. 56 grams of carbs contains 224 calories and 56 grams of fat contains504 calories, which is already ¼ of all the calories any body would need in an entire day, provided they wish to weigh 200 pounds. Guest guest
I use the old fashioned or the quick, the ones that come in the round container or in bulk. I use 1/3 cup oat meal and 2/3 cups of water. I cook it on high for about 55 seconds in the microwave. My microwave is fairly powerful so the time might be different for a different oven. I use Splenda and I add cinnamon once in a while. Sometimes I add half a peach or a few raissins. I usually only eat the oat meal and nothing with it. It's about 30 grams of carbohydrates. My wife works for Wal-Mart so that is why I usually refer to their products as Crystal can do a little " look up " on her lunch hour. Cy, the Ancient Okie..
