Thanks for your help. Gastro paresis is a good thought, which I passed along

to her doctor today. We have been doing a lot of GI tests and have not found

anything physical so far. I am looking for ideas on enticing people to eat

when they have lost interest in food - even nutrition drinks.

This sounds a bit like gastroparesis. Has the GI doctor evaluated her for

that?

Megase worked wonders for my mil. She had no appetite. With Megase she perked

up and really enjoyed meals and snacks. She even enjoyed talking about food,

watching cooking shows and helping prep meals (I could always find something for

her to do). We adjusted dose depending on her appetite . A tsp every day or

every other day etc. Megase made no difference when the end came and it was

easy to see it was time to dc it - she was dying and had no appetite regardless.

I had worried about that but for her it turned out not to matter. We had some

negative remarks about it after she was diagnosed but my mil was a weird sort of

anorexic all her life and when she starved herself to 87 lbs her dr at that time

rx'd it and she put in weight and overall seemed much more relaxed and happy not

to be starving herself.

Thanks to all for these very helpful posts. My Mom is back in the hospital so I

have had little free time to answer. I am hoping she will be home Thursday.
