End of the Year 2000 Challenge

The Year 2000 Challenge is officially over, but please feel free to send me

your final stats for awhile longer. I think I can safely say that 95

percent of the original participants stopped reporting months ago. Shorter

challenges appear to be much more successful. I think we had a lot of new

folks join the challenge thinking it sounded great while losing at induction

rates and they felt they could retain those weight loss rates throughout the

year. Understandably, it didn't happen and I think people gave up, others

simply didn't stick out LC eating. I personally gained 5 pounds over the

year, as Kirstie says, those who can't track those who can!

Anyway, I don't plan to send the entire file to the list as I don't want

anyone to be discouraged or embarrassed in any way by how they did. I think

anyone who is still trying is a success. If you want to know how you did,

please e-mail me and I will look up your information and send it to you

personally. For those of you who stuck with it, thank you for making it

worth the effort and congratulations to all who were willing to try! If you

have me look up your information and you were very successful, you may see

that hit the list with your permission. While I don't want to make anyone

feel bad for missing a goal, I want those who have been successful to

receive the congratulations that they deserve.

Again, congratulations to all who tried and have not yet given up, you are

the success stories regardless of final weight. After all, two years ago, I

would have killed for my current weight!

My problem has been trying to get an accurate weight...I have a scale at

home but it is inconsistent. I have a accurate and consistent scale at

work, but the weight of my clothes varies and it is impractical to weigh

myseld nude there...so...

For me it was the latter...bad thinking creeps up slowly and will sabotage

your hard work. I can't blame anyone but myself...except for the fact that

they held me down and forced me to eat all those Krispy Kremes! Due to the

six inches of bad road between my ears, I lost some of my improvements. But

even so, I'm still proud of my accomplishments. Without a goal, there is

nothing to work forward to.

I say, the only real loser is one who gives up...and I know some. Keep

You may feel free to post me to the list. My year-end weight of 270 is

definately higher than my goal of 180. As of 8 Nov 99 when I started, I was

314 pounds, so that gives me a net loss of 44 pounds (20kg) in 14 months. I

don't remember exactly what I was when I started the challenge, but I look

at myself now and how I was last Christmas...I am very grateful.

When I started the challenge, I thought only fanatics exercised much. I am

now an active member in a gym.

I had ridden a bicycle quite a bit as a kid, but after I got my driver's

license in 1976, I rode less and less. In the period of 1980-2000 I rode my

bike all of 235 miles. This year, I started riding a lot, and between 14

July and 9 December I put 512 miles on a brand new bike.

Did I miss my Y2K weight challenge? Yes, I did. Do I regret this past

year? Hell no! I have accomplished things I never thought I could. Six

rides to and from work - 35 miles and almost 4 hours round trip.

I stand proud of what I have accomplished this year...most importantly, I

have learned that carbs have the power to change me into someone I don't

want to be.

I don't mind if you post my stats. I am currently 270. Whether I end up

win, lose or draw, nobody can take from me the feelings, love, and support I

recieved in the year 2000. I hope to be able to help carry on the

tradition.

Informal challenge, with myself...I'm going to re-establish my year end goal

of 180 as my year end goal for 2001. Hey, at least I'm 44 pounds closer...

> Again, congratulations to all who tried and have not yet given up, you are

> the success stories regardless of final weight.

I've gone too far to give up.

> After all, two years ago, I would have killed for my current weight!

Well, I don't know that *I* would have been driven to homicide, but two

years ago, I didn't think I'd do it this easily.

I have an attitude of gratitude.

Huggy, congratulations on sticking with the plan. I think most of us fell

off at some point, but a good many of us were still tuning in to the list

and not quitting. I think you gave all your pertinent stats. You didn't

know your starting weight for this challenge and that was 294. Good luck

with reaching goal this year, next year, whenever. Just keep plugging away!

That gives me a net loss of 24 pounds for the year. My goal was

110...well, like my uncle in Las Vegas says, " It's not how much you win

or lose, it's how much you leave with. " That's still 24 pounds less than

I started with, but more importantly, I feel better, I'm far more active,

and my blood chemistry and pressure are the best they've been in

years...so I guess that makes me a winner!

When it happens, it'll happen. What I'm NOT going to do is force things

- when you make it a lifestyle change (as opposed to something to do and

get off of), it will stay off.

Thanks, Lexi for complementing me on how well I did, but I think you really meant to complement Huggy too. I kept close 40+ pounds off, but Huggy did all the cycling and he kept off a lot of weight as well. The nice thing is that today my weight dropped half a pound. Not much, but TOM should hit this weekend, so I am surprised that I lost at all. Induction is helping and I have been a good girl. No latrine do for this turtle trooper!
