Guest guest
to kdorsey. I'm sorry to hear about your Mom's decline after surgery. Hospitalizations seem to do that to the elderly. But one important thing to check is her medications. My Dad was NEVER sick in his life until he was 87. Then he got sick and was inpatient between hospital and nursing home rehab numerous times within 2 years. Each time he went to the hospital they changed his meds and the same thing happened when he went back to the nursing home. And each time he lost a little more of his memory and cognitive skills. My Dad went from living independently, paying his own bills, driving his car to having mild to moderate dementia where he required 24 hr care. BUT what really did him in with hallucinations, agitation, confusion, loss of appetite, insomnia, etc. were the narcotic pain medications. The medical profession loves to peddle their drugs. They insisted my Dad had pain (even though he would always tell them he wasn't experiencing any pain)and kept pushing them on him. At the same time they wondered how he went from being the sweet man that everyone loved to being mean and combative! I fought for several weeks to get him off the drugs and wonder of wonders he was back to his sweet self. Unfortunately the drugs had already caused irreversible damage to his brain. The dementia was worse then ever. I took him home just before Christmas. He celebrated his 89th birthday in January. Right after that he deteriorated more and suddenly passed on Feb 6, 2012. My Dad also had Parkinson's like gait disorder. He had many signs of LBD but we never got a clear diagnosis. His neuro doc just brushed it off stating what difference does it make what kind he has? Knowing won't make him better. Well if I knew about LBD sooner I could have prevented them from giving unnecessary narcotics that made his dementia worse. The hallucinations terrified him. One thing I am grateful for is that he was older when he got it and didn't have to suffer for years and years. Check you Mom's medications. You are in my thoughts and prayers. ____________________________________________________________ 53 Year Old Mom Looks 33 The Stunning Results of Her Wrinkle Trick Has Botox Doctors Worried http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/4f81beb616892205f2dst01duc
