Guest guest
> wendy, Welcome to the group, sorry you need to be here, but glad we are here for you. I am still pretty new to this group myself amd I will try to make my story short. I was diagnosed with Ashermans in 1984(i was 21) after not having a period for 2 years. My doctor couldnt establish why I had developed this, the only thing we were able to come up with while revieing my history was that I may have had a miscarriage at 17 or 18 that I was unaware of and thought was a very heavy period with clotting which was noraml for me back than. When I was diagnosed I went in for a D & C and was fitted with an IUD. I gues at that time they didint realize D & C wasnt the answer to Ashermans. After the D & C I did get my period. Though it returned and continued it was very light and short in length. I went on birth contrl pills shortly after that as a form of contraception and stayed on them till 1998 when I was getting ready to get married. From around 1997 thru 1998 my period became lighter, almost non existant and eventually stoped. I hoped when I went off the pill it would return but it did not. In August of 2000 I went in for a diagnostic hsyteroscopy (with the intention of being a operative one depending on what was found). Well my cervix is scared over and I also have a retroverted uterus (it is tipped backwards) so when my doctor tried to insert the scope and poked thru the scar tissue at the cervix it poked thru and perferated my uterus. At that point he told me he would not attempt this again and would recommend me to a specialist. The doctor he wanted me to see did not take my insurance so I didnt set up an appointment. About one month ago I was looking at the " A " list of doctors and saw that two NY doctors had been added. I immediately made an appointment with Dr. Cohen (who thank god takes my insurance), and he was able to see me the following week (I met him on 04/16/2001). I just scheduled my hysterogram yesterday with him and it will be on May 22, 2001. He will then be going on vacation a few days after that so I havent scheduled my hsyeroscopy yet. Though I only have met him once so far I really like Dr. Cohen and he is associated with Columbis Presbytirian which is an extremly reputable hospital. I will keep you and the group updated after the hysterogram. Though I am fearful that I will be diagnosed with severe Ashermans because of my history and the fact that no one has really looked in my uterus in all this time as well as the possibility of endometreosis because I dont know if there has been back bleeding since the cerivx is scared over. Any way, welcome again. Karin
